Gordon Kirby is saying that Acura is pulling out which will lead to IMSA restructuring the series - including allowing Daytona Prototypes to enter. 8O

I don't think that DP teams are allowed to run DP's outside of Grand-Am competition.

You don't have to be a DP team to own a DP, and there are several older chassis about now which are no longer licensed for Grand Am competition (such as the 'classic' Crawford).

I doubt Grand-Am would allow them either, but it is theoretically possible. But since Acura is probably gone, ALMS will be down to Dyson and a handful of old/broken Prototypes.

You mean this. I read that recently, that rumour ("a veteran team owner said that if...") was not really the point of this article though. Also Autoweek repeated this couple of weeks ago but that story was full of assumptions. In a way old "news" because ever since Audi announced their nonparticipation there has been these kind of suggestions...

In these "Acura quits" suggestions De Ferran and Highcroft has been linked to IndyCar move but now De Ferran is dreaming about two car ALMS team and in addition two car IRL team next year.

This "Murphy the Bear" guy, who doesn't write a lot of bull and seems to be quite often right, hasn't heard anything definitive about Acura leaving (or staying).

http://murphythebear.com/blog/

But lately he heard that ALMS might announce Formula Le Mans like in LMS but not as a separate support race. Could be related to another rumour of single top LMP class.

Among the more tense moments was the start of the race. Melanie Snow was hit by a prototype in the opening turn and hit Ed Brown’s ORBIT Racing Porsche, which went hard off course. He was released from a Mansfield hospital after an observation period, but the incident underscored the difficulty with traffic.

“The biggest thing is to hold your line and let them go around you,” Melanie Snow said. “It hinders your driving but it hinders them as well. If it slowed us down, then it slows the other cars down as well.

What I found.

I am watching but, its pretty boring. The ALMS need to bring back the Audi's and move the Dyson cars up to P1. Give them more power and make this a better show for us... the Fans... This series is in a real need of cars.

In other news i do like the GT2 Corvettes.. They look great!!!

Just a thought but ... perhaps an IMSA GT Championship with the Prototypes coming over for the endurance races?

http://auto-racing.speedtv.com/article/ ... announced/

Petersburg dropped, Laguna moved to May and extended to 6 hour race. Something to do with ACO's "continental cup" plans?
