Interesting that miller has revealed there are only 36 engines available this year.

So although things are looking good for bumping they're not going to go too crazy, ....

36 engines? That's a big concern when you have a full week of practice and qualifying (during which they're hoping to push for record speeds) just leading up to a 500-miler.

It's 36 engine packages for the month of May, not just single engines.

It was less a few years back when Lotus pulled out if I remember right

Yeah, I meant more the cap on the field will be 36, Honda and Chevy have committed to 18 each and no more

Obviously if someone wrecks one they'll replace and stuff just neither of them wanted to have a huge amount of engines committed when they may or may not be used so that's your limit.

just refurbish the blown engines and it's good to go

it's not like in Fontana in 2000 when a lot of engines went kaputt

I agree, but wasn't that something the series had in mind building up to the 100th running?

Derrick Walker mentioned this a coupe of years ago, iirc but after last year's cock-ups they realized it might not be a very good idea.

The thing about Arie's record is that they had recently repaved the track and then they turned up the boost. Tony George just wanted to obliterate the CART record.

By gradually ramping up the engine power, yeah

However they realised the POS chasis they're running coupled with extra downforce made that unwise to say the least.

I think this is something to do with why Walker left, he was pushing for a new chasis that's less of an over-downforced load of crap that may be able to handle higher speeds without turning into a harrier jump jet, and the series disagreed.

ho hum, at least we have Roger driving the pace car eh?

It would be pretty sweet for the 100th running to finally break the Andretti curse :flag:
