I think what happened on the Warm up lap of the freedom 100 tells you all you need to know about him.

I didn't see the race but looking it up all that's written is that the car had a technical failure before the start. What did Chilton do wrong?

That was the "official" reason given but i believe there was a lot of speculation that he was a bit too scared to run the race, or that he wasnt comfortable on the track, or just couldnt get up to speed. Something along those lines. I'm sure if someone dug through last years indy thread we could find what was talked about.

Not true. The reason I heard was that the engine was flooded with fuel and they couldn't get the stuff to stop.

If he was truly scared of ovals, he wouldn't have run at Iowa. Or lead 87 of 100 laps. Or win it.

While I am open to either possibility (perhaps this year's 500 will be the acid test), there's a big difference between iowa and the 2 and a half miles of fabled brickyard,

Here's a few quotes the Indy race thread at the time:

So I assume Max Chicken had no intention of ever starting this race...

I guess this is perfect for Carlin, they still get daddy's money without the inevitable wreck that would result from Max on this track

Still, the new car looks like it's putting on a great show here. :)

I agree it might not have been true, but this was what I was referring to at least.

Separately, here's pics from media day with most drivers in their new fire suits.

Ahh, so we're basing conjecture for this season on conjecture from last season. Thanks for clearing that up

Hey i clearly said it was speculation, couldnt remember the exact reason and agreed it most likely wasnt true. I was just trying to give a better answer to the question other than "he was in the race" and "his sperm was the quickest one to swim up mummy". To be fair, i think i did that much at least rofl

Interesting to read they've been running flat out all around.

Montoya and Castroneves said they were running "insane" speed in Phoenix testing. Lap times around 20-21 seconds by the sound of it. Now, that is indeed fast but the lap record is still lower at 19.607 seconds by Luyendyk in 1996 (translates to 183 mph and change for avg speed).

Disappointing. Still too much DF and/or not enough HP.

Well, look what more downforce gave us at Fontana last time they went there.

Fenix is no fontana, it is unique.

The laptimes are slower than the 90s when they had to lift off? Or they comparing it to the drirge of the irl era?

Of course, how silly of me. It is purely a happy coincidence. I sure have egg on my face now! :slaphead:

Its all related, chilton, lack of lack, ovals that can be taken all fart out, all part of a bigger picture unfortuntantly :(

I like the ganassi liveries this year...makes you wonder why the yellow was not untroduced earlier
