I agree double points in the last race is dumb (as is any kind of playoff/chase feature in motorsport).
But Dixon won the most races.

By one, so what. Indy has more meaning then Sonoma anyway, that should be the first tiebreaker.

Oh man, what a race........I believed until the last lap that - given Penske's political strenght in Indycar - that someone between 2nd to 6th would make a "unexpected pit stop"......

Damn, it's not easy to lose a championship like that.......

Dixon is a hell of a driver,If you see what he did in terms of saving fuel, that's something really incredible but.....Montoya deserved that one. :cry: :cry: :cry: :cry: :cry:

So many people complaining about the double points concept.

I don't like it, too, but Montoya screwed himself. Matter of fact, Penske Racing screwed themselves by racing each other. That's the reason why Monty lost the title.

It's true. I don't care for JPM but it's contrived bullshit to put double points on the line just because it's the finale. The case could be made for doing it at Indy, but that's it.

Yes but if it wasn't double points he'd have raced himself back into the championship.

Plus there's Ganassi's shenanigans at Mid Ohio.

Yea, and they all race to the same rules. Not to take anything from Dixon, he's still a legend, but these kind of storylines feel so unnecessary.

But why should Montoya be punished more for making a mistake at this race than if he'd made exactly the same mistake at Mid-Ohio, lets say?

It's a shame it's come down to this. This contrived double points bullshit makes the championship feel completely irrelevant.
