renamed as Indycar & Andersen have gone their own ways, and both have mutually dropped the "Road to Indy" moniker that's been used for decades

-

Thought it would be a good idea to give the support series (Indy Lights, Pro Mazda & USF2000) a thread on it's own for general discussion or whatever else since we have the IndyCar subforum now.

Pro Mazda and USF2000 will share a common tub chassis starting in 2017. This is similar to how the Dallara DW12/IR-15 and the Dallara IL-15 share the same safety cell tub. The USF2000 chassis will share many features with how most Formula 4 chassis is currently and will be designed to run on both road/street circuits and oval circuits. The Pro Mazda version will have more horsepower and a different aero package.

The USF2000 championship has been very competitive this season. Pro Mazda's been full of unpredictability.

I would say USF2000 has been largely dominated by Nicolas Jamin\Cape Motorsports, and has been much less competitive this year in general - maybe it'd be a better fight if Jake Eidson was also at Cape. Pro Mazda and Indy Lights have had more race winners and a closer title battle.

Wouldn't it make more sense to stay in Pro Mazda and aim to win the scholarship? That would pay for most of the Lights season.

Not if Andretti's looking at going to more Indy Lights cars and getting rid of their Pro Mazda stuff.

Tan is fast, he just had a lot of bad luck last year.

He was a wrecking ball at one of the Barber races - and was penalized accordingly. You need to be somewhat consistent to win the title. Urrutia may not have been the outright fastest but he kept errors to a minimum and ran up front most of the time.

I was at the Barber rounds. His biggest problem that weekend was himself. Once one thing goes wrong, he let it snowball into so many more things.
