Absolutely insane day! What a race! And what an atmosphere in the stands! Never experienced anything like it. Hard to think that Indycar has any trouble after a day like this. Never seen my dad so happy after a race than today!

btw, did anyone notice how Sato got up on the lead lap and finished 13th?

Gutted Power didn't take it.

Montoya's win in 2000 was the last time a driver under 25 won the 500. Dixon in '08 was the last driver under 30 to do so.

I thought it was a fantastic race too, and I'm eager to see the overnight ratings for the broadcast. My Dad was watching with me at home and we both did notice a troubling amount of empty seats from one of the aerial views. I feel like between the three series Indycar once again had the marquee event of the day, like it felt in the past. Personally, my own bitterness over the split has been eased by the quality of the racing and the field the past two years. Congrats to Juan!

Empty seats was during cautions, I noticed a lot of people behind the grandstands where there were empty seats. Toilet/snack breaks perhaps.

Anyone know if there is a stream tonight for the price giving banquet? I watched it on tv last year when I was in Indy and would love to see it from home because I have to stay up all night to get into night shifts at work anyway.

it was the best race of the sunday for sure, specially with those last 20 laps, quite special to see Montoya putting his face on BorgWarner again

Just got to watch the race today. Fucking amazing! What a race!

I had much the same reaction as most of the people on here, except I was laying in bed watching it next to my wife (who is recovering from dental surgery), and I was met with "uuhhhnnnngggghhhh" and "babe, stoooppp, you're shaking the bed...."

What a great drive from the back of the pack!

Aero Pack was great today. Told ya, less is more. But also 3 strong fight for the lead helps. Specially if one is a crazy Colombian.

Dixon and RHR remain only drivers born in 1980s who have won the race. Eight different drivers born in 1970s have won.

Watching the banquet: using the Stones as the music backdrop is fine, but Gimme Shelter? "rape, murder, is just a shot away" while Conor Daly goes on the stage.

I'm not quite home yet, but I tell you what, that was a hell of a 20th running of the Indy 500 for me in person. I can't wait until next year.

I think he's a little worried

Wow, 20th running live. I'm actually jealous for that, as I wish I could get there one day. I've speaking to my dad for like five years already that we should go there, rather than for some random F1 race instead. But like most of the F1 fans, he thinks that Indy is just a boring race, running around a circle.

So I went to my 2nd 500. What a race, to say the least. One of the best races I've ever seen. It was crazy the risks many of the drivers were taking, and how ridiculously close some of them got.

Some notes:
-It was completely silent during the rendering of "Taps", save for some dingbat who tried starting a "LET'S GO PACERS" chant.
-Everyone sang along to God Bless America.
-What the hell was Sato doing up at the top of the track at the start of the race? That was a completely needless accident.
-My section was a Kanaan section. Everyone around me in the Paddock Penthouse were very solidly behind TK, went nuts every time he went up and took the lead, and the energy kind of went away when he wrecked.
-I was directly across from victory lane and Ed Carpenter's pit.
-I shouldn't have to say everyone lost their minds at the finish.

I must go next year.

+1 on everything, except I was between T1 and 2. Amazing experience.

Am I the only one thinking Karam is also to blame for the Sato Incident? He could have left the door open without a problem.
