The second leg of the IndyCar Triple Crown. We head to the Tricky Triangle, long bashed by NASCAR fans for being too boring. Yet, it's still more entertaining than a NASCAR race at Kentucky Speedway.

Then again, watching paint dry is more exciting than NASCAR at Kentucky.

But I digress.

Anyway, the challenge here is to deal with three straightaways that aren't even the same length and three corners that have different radii AND banking. IndyCar has hosted previous 500-milers at Pocono, dating all the way back to 1971. Last year's event went by quicker than a drunk losing his hands holding a firecracker too long, what will this year hold?

Wow not many support races, looks a bit like a fly away F1 race. Apart from Indy Lights are there any non Nascar series still racing on ovals?

Woohoo! Loved this race last year. Was my first Indycar race live since the good ole days of CART at Nazreth. Was the wife's first Indycar race ever!

Be there again Sunday with my Mom, Dad and wife. Top row, 3 sections to the left of S/F if looking from the stands to the pits. C'mon Montoya!

(It's actually been a running joke for a few rounds following some comments made by another member after Detroit)

I know it came off a little chippy but I wasn't trying to be a dick. It just seems like there's suddenly been a huge increase in JPM love. Is it just a matter of excitement that he's back in an Indycar?

I don't know about anyone else, but I was a fan back in the CART days. Saw him at Nazareth driving the wheels off a Target Lola with a busted front wing. Man had the fastest hands I'd ever seen keeping that car under control and in the top 10. Backed him when he went to F1, couldn't really tolerate the NASCAR adventure. So now he's back into a real race car I have someone to root for.

Really, I'd have to say Montoya is my guy now having not had anyone to truly root for since Halloween 1999.

15 years is long enough not to have an Indycar driver.

Montoya got his second wind as far as fan support goes when he went to IndyCar.

I just love when drivers change the series they're racing in. Very few do these days, I mean we've had Kurt at Indy, Montoya's done the switch, Kimi has done some rallying and ovals. There's not many you see who, while still in their prime (I know these guys are getting older but they're all still some of the best out there) attempt a switch. It's extremely impressive when they do well.

Anyway, excited for the tricky triangle!

I hope there is more passing than last year. Wasn't too impressed by that race compared to Indy.

I've been a Montoya fan since I watched him in British F3 in 1996.

On TV I could see why it might've been boring. From the stands, watching that race go by faster than drunk Friday night was really quite impressive. The long greens kept the strategy interesting and we were back timing the race from the end to see who was going to have fuel and who wasn't.

I've beem to quite a few Supermodified races that went green to checker. 50 laps in 15 minutes. Most would think the racing was dull, but the shear speed that the race finished under was amazing and, to me, worth the price of admission. I felt the same after last years race at Pocono, which is why, again I can only speak for myself, I never understand the idea that the fans don't care about the big speeds. I'm sure I'm in the minority there though.

For me, two reasons; first, increases clean air dependency and second, drivers pussyfoot around each other due to the higher risk of contact compared to a slow track. I like the idea of a high speed relative to the track though, like your supermodifieds, or getting around Bristol in a stock car. It's a pretty balls-out speed spactacle but at the same time, you're relatively unaffected by dirty air and also, you can still bump and nudge at those speeds with relative ease. But like, 200 mph racing around a big oval is ehh, to me anyway.

Second year event doesn't have the same attendance as first year event shocker.

Does no-one in this series plan long term? :slaphead:
