why are they doing the race in that direction (F1) and not counter clockwise like in MotoGP?

Perhaps they are skipping using turn one so as not to have rubber being pushed into the oval from the other direction, then turning around and running a proper oval and having it act like a skating rink for the cars? I don't know why else they would leave it out.

a real pity they are using even less of the oval than the F1 used to race on. It was cool to see them coming out of that turn.

Keep the oval turns set aside for the 500 and give the GP a little bit more of it's own identity?

I dunno. I just don't see this becoming a grandstand packing tradition. Guess we'll find out in a few days! 80% chance of rain friday, 30% saturday also could make it interesting.

This race will always be something else, something special, for the track, and that great turn 1 braking point.

I think the addition of this race is great, think about it reverse. What if we always had a race opening the month of events at Indy and now, this year, they took it away. I'm sure it will be more fun than a lot of other road course races, even if someone leads from flag to flag. The Indy atmosphere is there.

JPM just topped his first session in his open wheel comeback in qualifying group 2. Expected such results later this season. :)

Yeah, RHR was on pole, but wrecked and caused red flag, so lost his 2 fastest laps, which moved Saavedra to pole.

Aleshin had apparently advanced out of his group but was penalized for something and lost his 2 best laps. Anyone know what the penalty was?
