NEWS: #INDYCAR officials announce penalties for Team Penske, including disqualifications for the Nos. 2 and 3 entries, and a 10-point deduction for the No. 12, for violating Push-to-Pass parameters at the Firestone Grand Prix of St. Petersburg. The disqualification of the No. 2 awards the No. 5 entry of Arrow McLaren, driven by Pato O'Ward, with the victory at St. Petersburg. |

This is quite a spicy turn of events. The team owned and run by the person who runs the series has just been basically accused of blatantly cheating. If they are indeed guilty of what they've been punished for they can count themselves lucky they've only lost the results and finances from one weekend. |

Apparently they left it on the setting for the hybrid engines they were testing and they only noticed for Long Beach warm up. But they'd also tested the current engines between that test and St Pete. Maybe not trying to cheat but an almighty fuck up? Someone's getting sacked. |

Well, the problem too is that the drivers know they can't use push to pass at certain times, and they are very careful about when they use P2P in general because fuel saving is such a big deal in Indycar these days. So if they used P2P on starts/restarts when it's normally not allowed, it's not like that's just muscle memory or accidentally hitting it. That's a very intentional action, which they know is against the rules. |

Quote: This is a black eye for Roger Penske, Tim Cindric, Josef Newgarden, Scott McLaughlin and the series. Decisions were made to bypass the P2P rules and there were far too many people who plug into the cars and see the data to claim it was a simple software mistake. https://racer.com/2024/04/24/how-team-p ... pwNnfwzmH8 |
