The positive is that we gain another entry, rather than taking an existing seat from somebody more deserving. Hopefully we'll have another healthy grid size for 2024. Just have to wait half a year now...

He literally lives in the Cayman Islands, hard to not be a pay driver.

It is doubtful whether Simpson's car will add to the grid - Honda appear to be set at 15 leases, so unless someone turns up at Andretti's door with enough money to persuade them and Honda otherwise, it looks like they will be down to 3.

--------------------------

The #20 appears to be a choice between Askew and Rasmussen.

Yeah, I know he's mad and I don't care. I do not care. I did not care then. I do not care now. I'm here to race him.

Another rumour mill item - Speedcafe are reporting it, is that Indycar might be coming back to Australia but this time in South Australia.

Adelaide Parklands as it is can't host Indycar without changes (FIA grade isn't good enough, turns 1,2,3 and 8 would have to be modernised and you can't run the old circuit anymore) so it would have to be Tailem Bend. Government is reportedly trying to get an exhibition race for late 2024 (in the off season), entering the calendar 2025.

I give this serious doubt, but you know, smoke and fire.

Indycar have certainly been looking at post-season exhibition events, and it's in the right part of the world for racing in October\November\December.

Just bite the bullet and send them to Bathurst, what’s the worst that can happen, F5000 have raced there without issues.

I guarantee if they did that they’d have everybody watching, not just the core fan base.

Needs to be a street circuit imo. Aussie's permanent tracks are fairly average, but they sure do know how to do street tracks (yes, I include Bathurst in that)

Quote:
Reports that IndyCar could host an exhibition race on the streets of Adelaide are without foundation, Speedcafe can confirm.

The American open-wheel series has been looking at the potential of adding an ‘international’ event, with a race in South America tipped as the most likely location.

Rumours regarding a possible IndyCar return to Adelaide were raised in an article published in the Indianapolis Star, picked up by other outlets without interrogation.

The rumour has continued to swirl ever since despite there being no official comment on the matter.

And that is because, according to multiple sources spoken to by Speedcafe, it is simply not true.

Isn't Surfers an option anymore?

Edit: Yeah, probably not, laptime would be too short.

Yeah, sadly they can't use the full Surfers track any more.

I reckon Indycar at Phillip Island would go alright. But yes I agree permanent tracks are average, hope the new one in Victoria is better than Tailem Bend.

Bathurst is a grade 3 circuit, meaning any under cars with a weight/power ratio of below 2kg/hp cannot race there, Indycar is between 1.0-1.3kg/hp.

Forgot about Phillip Island, that's a world class layout. I have fears the new one in Vic will be just that, another Tailem Bend

Better news from HPD as a 16th lease remains on the table for Andretti after all.

https://racer.com/2023/09/20/hpd-workin ... -requests/

Coupled with the tentative idea that the loser of the Rasmussen\Askew shootout may be consoled with sharing the #33, 29 full-time entries are possible for next year.

---------------

Assuming it hasn't been cancelled, surely the best locale for an Australian Indycar event would be the proposed circuit in Toowoomba?

Sadly, it's in such a state of disrepair and with nimby neighborhoods surrounding Calder, it's going to be gone in a few years.

That project has gone quiet, there's been no updates on it since early 2021.

Yes, this could lead to Honda joining WEC which is stupid it's not happening anyway, but my worry is that the Japanese arm influencing the American side in it's knee jerk instability it seems to be famous for.

Quote:
In a move revealed on Thursday, Honda Performance Development, the motorsport arm of American Honda Motor Co., based out of Santa Clarita in California, will join Japan’s Honda Racing Corporation to become HRC US.
