Ferrucci making a mess. Malukas wrecks as a result.

Crash for David Malukas, Ferrucci was trying to recreate Meira Matos crash from 2009

Yeah, I know he's mad and I don't care. I do not care. I did not care then. I do not care now. I'm here to race him.

Very similar to Wheldon's flip in the 2003 race.

That was a strange wreck for sure. Rear end hit, collapsed suspension, slapped the front into the wall and the that lifted the nose and over she went.

Honestly, I don't think the cars fold up enough so to speak. In the old days, that hit would've ripped the whole side pod off, but these cars seem to hang together a bit more that allows more surface area to be exposed underneath.

Really buried the RR in the wall heavily there. Glad he stayed far enough from the fence when the nose lifted though.

Surprising to see one of these cars blow over again, the holes they cut in the floor a while ago seem to have done a pretty good job at keeping them on the ground. Maybe less effective going forwards (speaking as someone who knows fuck all about aerodynamics)?

It looked to me like when the right rear hit the wall, it made the front of the car swing around. That slammed the right front corner into the wall so hard that the impact alone bounced it into the air a little bit. Plus the front wing stayed on, giving even more surface area for the wind to catch.

Also occurred to me that he was probably going quite a bit faster when the air got under the car than if he'd spun and been travelling backwards.

yeah, def looked like the the bounce added some energy to the other factors that got him airborne

A blowover going forwards reminds me of the bad old days of the IRL,...such a rare thing to see now though, usually they have to be backwards for that to happen

Oh well, that's probably added half a million viewers to the TV figures as they'll replay that over and over

Probably it for excitement this weekend, I'm predicting a green run from lap 1 until lap 160 or something, before Debris or a slow car is found bringing out the yellow and the slipstreaming begins to the finish

Nothing quite like 300,000 jammed into the Speedway on a sunny afternoon... :D
