Will this have any effect on the schedule? If there's no need for bumping then what will they do with qualifying? :?

The main problem is still the number of engines rather than tubs/crews? Honda & Chevrolet have that fixed number of engines they're willing to use during the season?

I believe it's more crews are the issue, given there are more full time entries this season. So in some ways, it's a good problem for Indycar to have

Qualifying for the 500 will probably be similar to 2020 - Saturday sets all of the back 8 rows, Sunday sets the top 9 and then there will be a longer practice session (ironically enough, the last-minute entry for 2020 that probably would have been bumped in a normal year was run by DragonSpeed).

Crews, tubs and engines have all contributed to the problem in some way - Pruett mentions that Elton Julian has managed to put a crew together only by roping in ex-IMSA and F1 people. But there has also been a reluctance from some teams to lend tubs out and risk getting them damaged\written off, possibly because there wasn't much clarity on exactly how much longer they would need those chassis for.

There was also a rumour that DCR was working on a third car but had to abandon that after Honda lowered their engine lease cap to 17, all of which are already accounted for.

Pruett reports the Cusick\DragonSpeed deal as done.

-----

Qualifying for the 500 has been revised - the Fast 9 has been replaced with the top 12 moving on to Sunday and then being whittled down to a Fast 6.

With all the 2022 entry lists now seemingly settled, Pruett launches into 2023;

https://racer.com/2022/05/05/pruett-ind ... -may-2022/

tl;dr
-The previous marquee free agent was O'Ward, who now has (or is about to) sign a new contract with SPAM.
-The new marquee free agent is Veekay, who has contracted new management to find him a seat for next year. He could stay put, or he could move.
-Kirkwood is headed back to Andretti to replace Rossi. All of his future teammates are signed for at least 2023.
-Rossi's future is at SPAM, but there are questions over when and where to announce the move, with the race at Belle Isle the most likely location.
-Ilott has had interest from other midfield teams.
-Teams that might be looking outside of the US for talent are finding few options. Of the drivers who have tested an Indycar in the recent past, Vandoorne is staying in FE, de Vries is likely going to Toyota's Hypercar team, and Aitken is also ensconding himself in sportscars.

the June issue of Racecar Engineering has a 10 year lookover of the DW12 and it's future plans for 2024+ (new speedway wings & bodywork changes in relation for more cooling to engine/hybrid/gearbox)

Nicely done from Michael in getting the jump on SPAM's announcement of Rossi.

There is a renewed attempt to bring Indycar back to Latin America via Argentina, most likely as a non-points race.

Ilott broke his wrist on Sunday, so he will be replaced this Sunday by Ferrucci.

bigger question is who gets that CGR seat if it's the current driver of the #10 car or the #9 car

(Jenna rumored about Palou, and McLaren already tried getting Dixon once in 2018; so you know damn well they gonna keep trying)
