Marcus Ericsson running away with the 2022 championship.

Don't think anyone saw that coming...

He deserves it, he was solid in F1.

Still a long way to go. I might be in the minority here, but I'd love to see Will Power bag another one

In amongst the bitching, there are some Silly Season nuggets in the Mailbag; https://racer.com/2022/06/15/the-racer-mailbag-june-15/

The main takeaways are that 28 full-timers are possible next year (assuming that Foyt stay at 3 and Juncos manage to add 1), and that JJ does want to keep going.

FRosen is staying with McLaren...but perhaps not in Indycar.

Make that 29.

Struggling to get 33 Indy 500 starters but nearing 29 full timers? I don't think that'll happen any time soon. Can the engine manufacturers even support so many teams full time?

ROKiT appear to be bailing on Foyt, but all 3 cars will be at Mid-Ohio.

Not the first time Rokit's failed to make their payments to a team - I sure hope anyone looking for sponsorship has learned their lesson by now.

Pruett back at his keyboard for Silly Season.

https://racer.com/2022/07/01/pruett-ind ... o-edition/

tl;dr

-SPAM did try and lure first Palou and then Dixon away from Ganassi to fill what is currently Rosenqvist's seat. But both drivers are under contract until the end of next year and Floyd was not interested in letting them go early.
-Which leaves FRosen back at the top of the list of drivers for the #7.
-Helio is likely to stay at Shank for another full season, which is apparently a departure from what the received wisdom was a few weeks ago.
-Another driver staying put is Veekay, who has seen a lot of better seats go elsewhere and the best option is to stick with ECR for another year.
-Foyt will have at least one vacancy to fill even if ROKiT do a bunk, and Pedersen is the front-runner for what is currently Kirkwood's seat. Kellett is safe so long as his family keep paying, and the #11 is a question mark for Toronto, let alone next year.
-Ganassi and DCR will keep all their current full-timers, including Johnson - another Indy-only drive for TK may be worked out closer to the time. On top of that, a 2nd DCR w/HMD car for Lundqvist is viable.
-Also staying the same should be ECR, as Daly's sponsor is secure despite crypto falling headlong off a tall ledge.
-Ilott would like to stay at Juncos, and they want to keep him and then add a 2nd car if the right people come along.
-RLLR and Penske will both be staying as they are.

Chip Ganassi wearing an Alex Palou mask wrote:
“It’s a great feeling knowing I’ll be back with Chip Ganassi Racing next season,” said Alex Palou. “The team welcomed me with open arms from day one, and I’m excited to continue working with Chip, Mike Hull, the folks on the No. 10 NTT DATA car and everyone within the organization. The goals remain the same and we will continue to work relentlessly towards achieving them.”

Wow, this is getting jucy! I can't help but feel McLaren are dangling the carrot of F1 tests to lure in drivers, and I guess with Riccardo struggling, Palou may see this as a path in F1 itself
