Juncos has changed his mind...sort of.

Either JHR would run the car themselves, or they might lease it to DragonSpeed, who want to give Indycar another go.

Ahh, the eternal expectation for Indycar to run ovals at a massive loss because MUH TRADITIONS continues,....

Yeah, that goose is cooked. Most ovals are located in rural areas and if only NASCAR can sell as the hillbilly or redneck series then IndyCar was always more urban in comparison. I mean if TWO ovals in the Chicago area are gone it's a lost cause. Not even gonna mention the Milwaukee & Nazareth disaster either.

Homestead & Fontana seem like they would be good options?

ISC cockblocks them at every track they own.

That's the basic challenge with ovals under the current model: finding ovals that:
A) Are not ISC (NASCAR) or SMI owned, because neither has done a good job with Indy race promos in the past, and some have even work actively against the series at times.
B) Are not NASCARized, because many changes done for the Cup cars have produced less than stellar racing for Indycar.

That being said, the Iowa "let's pair with some Nashville country artists" angle this year is interesting. I think some of the lack of success on ovals has been bad promotion, as well as a schedule that is too dependent on just the Indycar race (no other entertainment, no support series, etc.) Maybe Penske can find a new formula that works for the ovals like the one they have for the street and road courses. The current model only works when you have an enthusiastic promoter (eg Gateway).

Ufff thankfully!

Quote:
During last year’s inaugural NTT INDYCAR SERIES race in Nashville, the restarts occurred at the finish line in front of Nissan Stadium but this August will move to the long straightaway as the field exits the Korean War Veterans Memorial Bridge and toward Turn 9. It will be the same zone that was used for the start of each race last season and should provide cleaner restarts and more immediate passing opportunities.

Quote:
Other modifications or changes to the 2.17-mile, 11-turn temporary street circuit include:

Turn 11 apex being opened approximately 6 feet to not only increase the track width but provide better vision for drivers.
Transition areas at both ends of the Korean War Veterans Memorial Bridge being smoothed as much as possible to reduce the potential of the cars bottoming coming on and off the bridge.
Resurfacing at the Turn 5 apex to minimize the bump.
Track width into Turn 9 being reduced to 50 feet to accommodate additional suites in a primary viewing area.

Elsewhere, SPAM have successfully matched their F1 colleagues in completely ruining the livery.

I think there are some optional aero pieces the teams can run on the ovals, but I can't remember the details.

Hopefully the last story from Pruett on car 33 before confirmation;

https://racer.com/2022/04/21/pruett-ind ... continues/

tl;dr
-The entry list will be 33 - any push for a 34th has been abandoned.
-Plan A was indeed a second JHR car for RHR alongside Ilott - but RHR decided against it to focus on coaching Ilott instead.
-Plan B (JHR loaning their chassis to someone else) has also fallen by the wayside.
-Plan C is now in play - Foyt have been tapped to lend one of their chassis (the one used by Kimball last year) to DragonSpeed, who have a full crew assembled.
-Cusick and Wilson are also involved, putting up the money to make it happen. So Wilson would be the driver.
-Should Foyt ultimately say no, the last ditch plan D would be for DragonSpeed and Cusick to go back to Juncos and beg\borrow\steal one of their spare tubs.
