Rahal's 4 pitstop strategy worked better than Dixon's. So his bitching from start of the race looks unwarranted.

This track is very boring w/o cautions or rain. It was nothing special in F1 and IndyCars can't make it work either.

The thing is, everyone is pointing to stuff like Grosjean's compettitiveness and 5 different winners out of 5 races like Indycar is perfect nd the fact only one and a half of those races has actually been worth watching for on track competittion outside of pit strategy

It honestly feels like Indycar is stuck in its old fashioned ways and is digging a trench saying "Fuel saving races is what we are, we're not doing anything about it, ever"

I guess we can hope for a new car in the next few years, and they keep gradually increasing the HP levels, which is nice and prevents them going full NASCAR when you can predict which race will be worth watching and which not with 100% accuracy, but they really need to make some kind of changes to the way their races run (outside the 500 obv), and soon.

I'd say this was an average race at an average road course. Beats Texas race 1 for sure.
The tast podium does help, but there was some on track action. It wasn't all 100% freight train / pit strategy.
The Indianapolis road course isn't the greatest track out there and without rain this is pretty typical of what you get, I think.

Anyone know if they would be able to run this track the opposite direction? Like enough run off and all of that? Since they have 2 races here now they could try to see if that direction would make this track any better.

The run off looks ok for most of the corners. There are a few openings for marshals/recovery vehicles that would need to be changed, though. I don't think it would create more overtaking, but some of the corners look like they'd be challenging (the new first corner would be very fast and tightening up towards the rest of the chicane).

Indycar was at it's best when they introduced the dw12. Every race was a spectacle. Then they started fucking it up with ridiculous aero packages and they never recovered from it. Just go back to the original dw12 and we'll have great racing again

I thought the race was fine & honestly a average / typical race for IMS RC

it didn't help that half of the ad-breaks was when something interesting was happening on track (said before, saying again for the 100,000th time - would pay for ad-free subscription option for IndyCar)

Finally watched a Indycar race with no spoilers beforehand, while doing my pos chart. Enjoyed the race a lot, specially following the alternate strategies and watching the race kinda on background while nothing was happening. Grosjean and Veekay going for the win also helped a lot.

Anyway, what Indycar has got going for them is the close field - the veterans are starting to fade, while newcomers are starting to get good. Also if you like races with long green runs and all the pos shuffling that comes with it, this is very nice at the moment.

What they really need to work is the aero-push from the aeroscreen/halo, they already did some aero changes for this year, even beating the track record at Barber, but it was nowhere near enough. Fix that and this series will shine.

The Barber track record was at least partly due to the repave there.

Yeah, vets not named Dixon are being phased out. Kanaan has overrun his stay already, Hunter-Reay is still there due to Marco being so bad he got himself fired from a family team and Pagenaud could be in his last Penske season. Power is still hanging on but McLaughlin is no slouch which makes his look a bit vanilla too. Sato has done nothing this season either.

On the road courses, it was a pretty racey car. (But also remember how incredible the road racing was when the IR-18 debuted before teams got it more figured out and we got the aero screen to add weight up high?) On ovals, it made for lots of passing on the big tracks because it was so easy to pass that we got lots of drafting by people and people not wanting to lead to save fuel, but that's not really my ideal type of racing. But the biggest thing for me is god damn that was one ugly car. Just as bad as the crapwagon it was replacing. It's easy to say that things like ugly cars or tracks or bad sounding engines shouldn't matter as much as the racing itself, but I really disagree and find I am much more likely to enjoy a race when the stuff I'm seeing on screen at least looks good.

IN B4 one of these vets wins the indy 500 and people like robin miller crow about how old guys should rule the series forever
