If you look at the picture in the OP, you can see the outer part of the track in the corner is black, as opposed to the grey colour everywhere else. The black is because NASCAR asked the track to put down a traction compound before their race in 2019, so that the top of the track would have more grip, with the hope that more drivers might use it and there might actually be a race instead of a single-file procession around the bottom. Unfortunately, the traction compound stained the tarmac underneath, and it remained black even after the compound itself was mostly gone. As you would expect, the black part of the track gets much hotter much more easily than the grey part, and the hotter the tarmac, the less grip there is. So last year's Indycar race was a single-file procession because no-one could touch the black part of the track. Rosenqvist tried and ended up crashing. The track workers have been trying to clean the tarmac so that this won't be a problem this year; https://racer.com/2021/03/24/indycar-co ... exas-show/ |

The drivers confirmed during the most recent test at Texas unfortunately that the track is still stained and there's way less grip in that part of the track. So expect more single file bullshit. |

Texas will always be a single file fest from the banking configuration in turn 1 & 2 IMHO honestly TMS should just seal the entire track surface so it's equal across the board - once the sealer wears away it would widen the track out as well. |

I thought the previous configuration here was great. I know the surface itself was REALLY run ragged but the turn banking/geometry was fine. All it needed was a regular-ass repave. |

The Genesys 300 is 212 laps (318 miles) and the XPEL 375 is 248 laps (which is 372 miles). |

It didn't answer the rookie status question, but Pietro will be in Romain's car this weekend. Fun fact the article brought up, that I had completely forgotten about was that Christian Fittipaldi finished 2nd in the '95 Indy 500, as a rookie. https://www.indycar.com/news/2021/04/04 ... as-feature |

I just realized they have one practice session, and that is all? I find that extreme a bit dangerous, tbh |
