Would've thought it'd have been red flagged, but remember that Pocono wouldn't have been stopped for Robbies wreck if the fence hadn't been destroyed (Miller said that in the mailbag after it happened.)

It would have been 4 to go if they threw the red by the time they cycled through. One lap to restart would leave 3 and green with two to go. It'd have been close but doable.

My guess is NBC really wanted it over by 6pm.

The inside wall (and the timing tower, while we're talking about it) is obviously a problem, but where else would you put it? There's basically nowhere around Indy where you can afford to have the end of a wall sticking out.

And one block/crash short of 4 times. Who would have thought?

This track definitely picks its winners.

The best Andretti finisher was Hinch.

Chilton beat Alonso.

Yeah, I know he's mad and I don't care. I do not care. I did not care then. I do not care now. I'm here to race him.

Yeah he is really good here.

I feel like Rossi's lovetap in the pits was the Speedway saying "Here Sato, you win today". :flag:

Time for Alonso to slink back to Europe and never return to IndyCar. It would be a shame for him if this is his last attempt but I don't see him coming back tbh.

Alonso's only chance to win at Indy would be at the October GP.

now that Pigot is ok I can see NBC using that crash footage to advertise Indy 500 pretty much like they are using Newman crash to advertise Nascar

Just watched the Pigot crash again, and I noticed that he lost it so late in the corner that he missed the SAFER on the outside and hit concrete. Not trying to make any kind of point, just found it interesting

I'm surprised we haven't had a worse accident there yet. I'm just waiting for someone to make contact coming out of turn 4 and spinning at almost full speed right into the end of the wall. It's almost happened a few times, but all the accidents have been with contact with the outside or inside wall first, allowing the car to scrub off speed. Billy Boat's accident, Pigot's today, and Kevin Cogan back in 89 all made heavy contact with the wall after spinning in turn 4 and scrubbed off quite a bit of speed beforehand (Cogan's was probably the worst). Nobody has crashed into it head on or spun straight into it thank god, but it almost seems inevitable. Problem is I just don't see how you can solve it. No matter where you put a wall, there's always going to be a blunt end to it.

Only solution I've thought of over the years is to have the inside wall slope up gradually from halfway down the backstretch. Which is obviously stupid and probably presents a whole bunch of problems of its own, but I can't think of anything better.

The end of the pitwall used to be protected by an angled barrier from inside T4 out to even with the inside pitwall. I direct you to Eddie Sachs/Dave MacDonald and Swede Savage crashes as to why that barrier is gone.

Mark Dismore hit the end of the barrier head-on after contact with the inside wall.

I think bringing the wall out and running it down through inside T4 would make the exit of T4 so narrow it'd be more dangerous than what we have.

One change I would like to see is catch fence along the pit wall to keep a car out of the pylon. If you have to move the wall out a couple feet to do it, OK.

As for Rossi... I didn't really think that was worthy of a penalty, but whatever.

Indy absolutely has a say in who wins. Dixon will remain a one time winner.

Maybe just have the inside wall extended all the way back to T4 and the only access to the pits being through the inside of the corner warm up/warm down lane

I'm sure hitting that inside wall would still be a pain, but at least it'd be flush with the direction of travel...

They could certainly make a better protection for the wall, and re-design the start of the wall itself. Those tyres gave way too much, it looked like he was going straight into the concrete.
