Hinch also mentioned on off track that he knew Veach was rock climbing the weekend they fired him and it sounded to me that everyone knew he would go there beforehend. That poscast was also released very shortly after the announcement and way before Pruetts. It was NOT mentioned that Andretti would name that as the reason.
So I would guess the reason to fore him was even picked after they did fire him. Poor guy...

Askew's been given the heave-ho. Weird. I guess they want Helio full-time?

According to Racer:
Quote:
Although no reason for the split was cited, it’s believed an interview featuring quotes from Askew’s management team, which questioned the team’s commitment to Askew’s well-being and caused embarrassment for both AMSP and IndyCar, did little to help the situation.

Also Pruett, who until now always sais there is no way whatsoever Ferrari would com to IndyCar, now for the first time mentiones it himself and in print:

The quote from this article is allegedly what caused everything:
Quote:
Spire Sports + Entertainment, which represents Askew and was among those who pushed the driver to see a doctor, noted Arrow McLaren SP did not reveal that Askew was suffering from a concussion in its Thursday announcement he would miss next week's race.

“Oliver clearly demonstrated his talent until Lap 91 of the Indianapolis 500 and I hope this does not become another case study of why athletes do not tell their teams they are injured," said agent Jeff Dickerson. "The reason they do that is because more often times than not they are replaced. In motorsports, there is always somebody to replace you, and whether it was Dale Jr. or Oliver Askew, there is always another driver available.

“I hope this is not a barrier to progress for other drivers — especially young drivers afraid of losing their job — to notify their teams they are hurt. I hope the team proves me wrong because the good news is, the kid has had a head injury for the past month and has still run 14th in IndyCar."

No comments out of the ordinary IMO. It's a known issue, and maybe why drivers need to unionize? In any case, Schmidt drivers have been handled rather questionably twice within a year now - is the issue the team itself?

The drivers & teams do need to unionize, not just in IndyCar but all forms of major level American auto racing as series + tracks continue to merge & become huge conglomerates. But it's likely never to happen with the group down in Daytona Beach controlling alot of aspects across the motorsport landscape

I'd say there is a better chance of a pissing match between the FIA & FIM over flat track + speedway bike racing happening over a union sadly

Can't imagine that they chose to drop Askew and only then start up negotiations with Rosenqvist. It seems that they were ready to shunt Askew off into the part-time third car they were wanting to run. And then perhaps his agent's interview put paid to that as well.

More from Pruett.

https://racer.com/2020/10/21/pruett-ind ... date-ep-3/

tl;dr RHR now appears to be safe, and the #26 could be split between two or more drivers depending on budget. Askew is a possible option there, and is also linked to Ganassi to share Johnson's car. This car would still be a 4th Ganassi car, with Rosenqvist's seat filled by someone else.

Meyer-Shank are still planning a 2nd car and Coyne are likely to keep both of their drivers although neither is signed yet. Kimball may be gazumped by a combo of TK and Pietro Fittipaldi. Van Kalmthout is planning on staying at ECR, and the team is still working on giving Daly a full season with a third car for the boss on ovals.

McLaughlin is still formally contracted to Dick Johnson Racing for next year, and will be flying back home after his debut on Sunday. Whether this means anything for next year is to be determined.

Re Mclaughlin they couldn't really have it any other way currently, his first run in Indycar is a lot later than anticipated and they can't very well commit to a full season without having at least one race to better inform both him and the team. If he goes well and feels up to making the move (not sure I'd want to be moving to the US for 2021) I imagine they'll make an announcement towards the end of the year, otherwise he needs to still have his plan A with DJR.

No more Freedom 100.

Indy Lights was really open in saying it was an "IndyCar decision".

Something to do with having more flexibility in the Indy 500 schedule.

This is utter and complete horseshit.
