Wow, that's a really shitty request.

It's crude enough on the surface but I'm not even sure how the sponsor thought it would have been a good marketing ploy. It's for a competitor in a sport that is geared toward people of all ages. How the hell were they expecting to get much mileage out of an 18+ photo shoot?

that would had backfired on her pretty hard. If she had failed driving there, people would claim she got the seat just because she went on naked

That's a good point too. The sponsor would essentially be setting their own driver up to be scrutinized in a very specific way male drivers never are.



Maybe I misread but is Schmidt the bastard here? I thought it was all the sponsor's request and that Schmidt didn't fault her for backing out once they got wind of the nude photoshoot demand. I guess it would reflect poorly on him if he knew what they wanted before he tried to hire her.

Yeah, I read it that the teams said they have the sponsor...but...there's a disagreement with the sponsor about the deal. And Emma wanted to know what's the issue before booking the flight. In the Finnish podcast (the original source) she kinda paints a picture that bikini photoshooting was agreed, but sponsor suddenly wanted it to be topless and that was not agreed and the deal folded.

If you remember how Danica Patrick was potrayed in GoDaddy.com and Peak coolant commercials at the time, bikini shooting might have been ok, but maybe sponsor went a bit greedy and thought that a less known racing driver should deliver more.
