I'm astonished that drivers who competed in CART / IndyCar when I was a teenager are STILL racing in the series today! Long may it continue (makes me feel like im still a teenager lol).

Yeah I know. I was only 11 in 1998 (Kanaan's rookie CART season) but remember his podium in Houston. :D

Yeah, I know he's mad and I don't care. I do not care. I did not care then. I do not care now. I'm here to race him.

Ganassi are really going for veteran drivers. I hope I'm wrong, but I think it will be difficult for Johnson to get up to speed.

I haven't followed the Indycar off season that much, but is there an officially stated reason why Johnson isn't racing on ovals?

Given his vast experience I find it quite surprising.

Also, it's quite weird Ganassi is going to field a car for a legendary Chevrolet driver in an Honda powered team AGAINST Chevrolet :)

There are number of people who complain about certain drivers.

After Wheldon's death Johnson said IndyCar shouldn't race on ovals anymore. The reason is simple, he thinks open-wheel on ovals is too dangerous

I don't think he gets a say in it, what I've seen, it's his wife that has put a ban on it.

A shame, because you know he'd want to run the 500 if he was allowed.

Well, I think moving to IMSA full time with Ganassi would be a better career move then, even if it's not clear if the team is eyeing Le Mans with a LMDh or not.

In my opinion, racing in Indycar without any intention to run the Indy 500 is a bit pointless for an American driver of his renown.

he always dreamed of running a IndyCar at Long Beach, given that was his home race as a kid

He's opened up on considering ovals too with the haloscreen apparently, probably not until year #2 or later on tho

More from Pruett;

https://racer.com/2020/12/02/indycar-si ... 2020-ep-4/

-RLLR's longstanding dream of fielding 3 cars will not be fulfilled this time.
-But Foyt may dig the #41 back out of storage if there are enough drivers to pay for it. Kimball is likely not staying, but Kellett probably is, and if Grosjean hasn't been put off of racing then he is still in the frame.
-Hinch is just about guaranteed to be back at Andretti.
-Chilton will be back for all but 3 races at Carlin, and the team still wants to run a 2nd car again.
-Coyne is currently a free-for-all (no pun intended), as Ferrucci has much less funding available to him and many drivers have been contacted about both seats. Top of the pile is believed to be Pietro Fittipaldi.
-RVK and Special Ed will both maintain their roles within ECR - the only question mark is Daly, who may bump the boss into a third car, or may continue to share the second one, depending on funding.
-Penske will likely run a USF2000 team for Will Power's protege and another minority driver.

I believe that would make 27 full-time entries if they all come off, along with Helio and possibly Carpenter as part-timers.

Sounds like Ferrari fucked us again to get some political edge in F1. I love the cars, always wanted one, to the point of buying a Fiat, since it's Italian and was the parent company at the time. But the Scuderia is really starting to drain my passion as a fan.

Please educate a European who is not up to date with events in the great US of A: Keep reading stuff on twitter about Long Beach, Portland and Laguna possibly being canned for next year. I mean, seriously is the West Coast in such disarray with Covid? LB, ok that's a few months away and a street track needs months of building, but Portland and Laguna?

It's more like Twitter is a cesspool of disinformation, distortions, and idiots who don't know what they are talking about. :p

The COVID-19 pandemic is pretty bad in the US at this moment, but to be honest, I haven't heard any affect on 2021 races at all. Cancellation projections this far out are just too soon. Probably it started with some Twitter account who has a beef either with the West Coast for some reason and/or road courses. :p

The Long Beach Grand Prix states that "tickets will go on sale at a later date". Being April, it certainly might be affected by COVID-19, sure, but not definitely, and even if affected "cancellation" is not the only possibility. I can see why ticket sales aren't yet available though.

Portland's official web site says nothing, nor does Laguna Seca. Normally tickets for these events probably wouldn't even be on sale yet. Seems like current timelines suggest a COVID-19 vaccine might be available to the general public by mid-summer 2021, developments one way or another here would affect what you could host. But even without this development, natural road courses are perfect venues for "socially distanced" fan attended sports to be honest (large, outdoors).

Montoya is in my top 3 all time favorite drivers. He was just amazing in CART in 1999 (and 2000 but car was shit) and of course in F1.

I didn't realize 2017 was his last entry. Can't believe it's been that long!

I'm excited that JPM wants another shot.

He's one of the best natural talents in motorsport history.

I won't tell my partner. The two times she was openly rooting for him, were while watching the 2015 finale at Sonoma, and when we traveled to the 2016 Indy 500.
