Well, to get back on topic, I saw an interesting screenshot on Twitter of a Racer.com article that was apparently posted and then quickly deleted on their website. The article claimed that Rossi was going to make a shock move to Carlin in 2020, and that Zak Brown/McLaren would be involed with heavy funding from their end. It also mentioned the opportunity for Rossi to gain an F1 reserve seat with potential free practice time on weekends that don't clash with the IndyCar schedule.

He'd be fucking insane to do that.

Unless there were no other offers, which I find hard to believe considering Sunday....

Well, it depends what you believe. Roger says he doesn't want to run 4 full time cars, and it doesn't look like Newgarden, Power or Pag are going anywhere so there's no room at the Inn at Penske. Andretti would kill to keep Rossi, but needs funding and Napa hasn't said what they're doing, so unless Honda ponies up a bunch of coin to keep him, there may not be a place for him at Andretti even though Honda do indeed want him in the stable, it's a matter of how bad do they want him. Chip is 3rd in line but I'm not sure if funding is an issue or he'd just write him a fat check and call it a day to have Dixie's replacement for the next 20 years.

Rossi to Carlin/McLaren is insane and unless he can pry his engineer away from Andretti in the deal there's no way in hell I'd make that move. On the other hand, it could be a lot of fun to see what Rossi can do in inferior equipment.

I'm hoping that was a real article that was accidentally released and not some pointlessly elaborate joke that was posted. I'd hate to think I started this discussion based on a complete fabrication, lol.

The article also mentioned a $50M figure for McLaren's potential involvement in the Carlin IndyCar program.

Was the article attributed to anyone? Seems odd to write something with that much detail that is completely made up, especially for RACER who have a reputation to uphold and have not yet descended into the bowels of ersatz Buzzfeedism unlike their European cousins, unless it was an idea for an April Fools' story that got nixed.

Yeah, I know he's mad and I don't care. I do not care. I did not care then. I do not care now. I'm here to race him.

Robin Miller and Marshall Pruett had bylines on it.

@Indy500Blog posted it on Twitter around midnight ET.

People on Reddit are saying it's a complete fabrication though.

With Chilton stepping back from ovals one has to wonder whether Graham is reducing his overall investment in Carlin, which would mean Carlin looking for investment from elsewhere... McLaren. Although after the way Zak Brown treated them after the 500 debacle it wouldn’t surprise me if Trevor Carlin told Brown to sling his hook.

Carlin and McLaren?

Hasn't McLaren learnt their lesson after the 2019 Indy 500 debacle? Hmm, that makes me think it wasn't really Carlin at fault then but entirely McLaren which doesn't surprise me in the least.

If you're reading this, don't do it Rossi!

Sounds very much as though Pato will not be back.

Not sure on what clashes there are with Indycar but with no money and it now being only his third priority it seems safe to assume that the second Carlin car is available.

Crunch time.

For Karam's career, and probably on track, too.

There is a Judd design laying around somewhere. Should be easy for a manufacturer to give Judd proper money to develop that engine according to the new rulebook.

I'm pretty sure that what keeps some manufacturers away, is the amount of involvement that IndyCar requires. They can't just go and dip their toes in the water with a couple of cars. They would be required to power a third of the field, from day one.

And if you get destroyed by the more experienced Chevy and Honda guys, it would result in terrible PR. It didn't affect Lotus much, as they are a niche brand, but imagine the disaster for say, Ford, if they are miles away from the other two at St. Pete, with several DNQ entries in May, and not one in the first 9 rows or so.
