Was that gravel trap always called China Beach? I think I read that for the first time. Also: Why so?

I have never heard that gravel trap referred to as China Beach. All of the other names on the Wiki map are on maps on Mid Ohio's site (for instance this map with corner workstations) but not that one.

That being said, Googling suggests it has been a common nickname for a while (along with the "esses" being named "madness" by some). Why? Who knows, maybe someone was a Dana Delany fan at the time and the name stuck. :p

Doesn't sound like an "official name" though.
