Q: So you recently wrote that you are sitting on a story that is going to make every IndyCar fan very happy. So is that in reference to COTA in 2019, or is there something else on the horizon we can look forward to?

Jim, Indy

RM: Oh no, something much better, and it will surface in the next month.

This COULD be Alfa or Genesis (Kia) joining in. Or something completely different. Or just McLaren and Alonso.

MAYBE THE INDY 500 BECOMES THE INDY 1000

There was another reference to a 3rd manufacturer here by Bobby Rahal:

http://www.racecar-engineering.com/feat ... bby-rahal/

Quote:
Do you think IndyCar needs another engine manufacturer?

‘Well I think it’s important for the series. The more manufacturers the better, it creates more awareness of the series, it creates more opportunities for the teams, it’s more advertising for the series … a third manufacturer would improve it. There are rumours that a third one is close to making an announcement. The rumours are Alfa Romeo; you also hear of Korean company, Kia, who are getting more and more into the high performance side in their product line.’

But isn't this Alfa thing an old rumour that has been circulating for months if not soon years?

Sept. 22 — WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca, Monterey, Calif.

That's only a week after IMSA's event there. Probably doesn't benefit either series.

Sanctioning fee was supposedly lower when on the week before or after. Both series can't fit their weekends together presently on the support side, but if the could merge the weekends it would be the best for all parties. NBC might have a say though as well, as it means either wall to wall TV time or not having to transport TV equipment for 2 weeks if they work between IMS Productions & NASCAR Productions (as the series use separate TV productions crews)

Good points, I forgot the whole IMSA/NBC deal and was only thinking about attendance, when they're this close more or less both events' attendance should suffer.

No doubt that it will suffer on the attendance end, but even if it was in the spring, it'd hurt them too given being near Long Beach (as Long Beach is more of a festival & a bigger event)

Wow, great to see Laguna Seca back on the schedule. Was not expecting that.

And they managed to get COTA *and* keep TMS? So much for Eddie Gossage's threats and strong-arming.

they lowered the fees for Eddie to give up the location exclusivity clause. SMI was one of the higher fee tracks given the longer history from the IRL days before new tracks came in with lower rates to help add tracks to the calendar.

It's that exact car; Autosport reported that they converted it to road spec for the test. I guess the sponsors were removed because they were for Munoz?

It looks pretty sponsor-less in this pic at least.

Maybe it's the car Munoz will run at Sonoma.

Update on Wickens:

If you look at the list of his injuries and what is mentioned above in regards to some people assuming 'he'll be fine', I can only say what I was worried about, that Curt Cavin's interview after was overly optimistic both in phrasing and the tone of his voice. Also as much as I like him, if PT wasn't PT he would've been fired from NBC on the spot for the tweet that night. Rant over.

The fact that SPM are keeping the car for him, gives me hope he'll make a full recovery, though.

Paul Tracy thinks a grazing kiss from another car is enough to completely smash the rollbar of one of these cars, the guy is an uninformed moron and should never have been employed in the first place.

What did he say after Pocono?

Respectfully disagree on the hiring part, I liked PT, both as a driver and an announcer, he does have very valid and insightful points, but sometimes his talking/acting before thinking attitude, just makes him look like a gorilla in a china shop.

Too lazy to search for the tweet, but the night after the race, he tweetet in good will, about making changes to the catchfence, trouble was he started the tweet by saying something like 'glad Wickens is going to be fine'. To his defense I was also thinking he'll be fine based on Cavin's optimistic interview, but he should know better being in that sport/business for all his life.

he does seem to suffer foot in mouth syndrome more than most, but i'll give him this, he's no where near as bad as the ABC crew and yes, given the interview, I think everybody was thinking happy thoughts, although I do remember some on the forum saying there was something not quiet right with the guys attitude and there was probably more going on than we were privy to and not to assume.

I do really wish he'd shut up about the rollbars, I bet Dallara probably wish he would too since to the uneducated, it's basically saying the cars are unsafe.

The update on Wickens is extremely, extremely upsetting. Just the gravity and extent of it. :(

Jesus they are pretty horrendous injuries. Without knowing the severity of the neck and spinal cord injuries I just hope that he is able to recover to have somewhat of a normal life (hoping not a Christopher Reeve situation).

I really hope that Robert is able to recover fully from all of this.

He's lucky in someways with how the safety developments have increased with the DW12 / IR18 chassis, don't want to know what would have happened in years past. Hope that IndyCar and the other racing series can learn more to improve on various things, especially with the bottom floor impacts in which effect every single form of motorsport.
