COTA fucking sucksssssssssss.

If they thought Mid-Ohio was a snoozer in years past, they don't know what's coming with CoTA

At the very least they need to make a separate layout for series outside of F1 & MotoGP, that track was terrible for just about everything in dry conditions.

Portland was usually pretty dull in CART unless it rained and now everyone seems happy about its return

I'd take Portland any day of the week over CoTA

I don't recall any good dry weather race at CoTA on 4 wheels since it's creation, at least Portland has had some interesting moments in previous IndyCar, NASCAR & IMSA races and a couple good passing areas, where as CoTA is too strung out before you get to the backstraight.

Eh, COTA isn't the worst Tilkedrome in the world, and the current formula of Indycar seems to be a lot better on road courses that were snoozers in other eras.

So if they get it, "we'll see" I guess. I guess it's more a matter of someone thinking this will sell to the Austin / San Antonio market even with TMS decently close by. (Not a bet I'd personally make, but whatever...)

The first GP at COTA was a good one

Ferrucci has already been confirmed but I haven't heard of any others.

this short version could be more appropriate than the full track with that boring last sector that just add lap time
but it doesn't have a pitlane or boxes for a top open wheel series, just for track days and low tier racing

The last sentence in that article. That's quite amazing of Mazda to do that and not just leave them with uncertainty at this early/important stage of their careers. There's really nothing forcing them to do that.

Austin City Council has approved the following:
Quote:
Approve a resolution to authorize the Circuit Events Local Organizing Committee to act on behalf of the City for the Texas Events Trust Fund for the purpose of conducting economic studies, submitting applications, and submitting any required funding to the Texas Office of the Governor for IndyCar events to be held at the Circuit of the Americas facility.

This is what I'd do in terms of a track redesign for CoTA.
Spoiler:
Below is what I'd have as a modified version of the East track (standard for non-F1 / non-MotoGP series that want to run the esses, modified to attempt to make more passing areas for series that want a better on-track product). I'd bypass the esses, creating a longer straight that goes into a hairpin before returning to the backstraight, then reprofilng turns 14 & 15 of the stadium section so it's not so narrow and odd (especially turn 15, as it's so blind and out of place, honestly the worse corner on the track). Personally a complete bypass of the stadium section would be better but wouldn't work with the GP course.
Image
linked here is the other redesigns: modified layout of the GP track, and then versions that don't bypass the esses (GP / East).

The layout is on iRacing but most clubs & regional / grassroots series just run either the full course or the east track.

Could have 2 international races proposed for 2020 with Buenos Aires in discussion for a IndyCar race, to run in the same window as a doubleheader with the possible Rio race.

One of the nicer problems to have - some circuits will not have enough pit boxes for all the expected entries next year.

https://racer.com/2018/08/31/indycar-gr ... ty-limits/

Also sets the expected number of entries for Sonoma at 27.

at least it seems that RIR is still on the cards for 2020, just wish they would consider a 18th race for next year with RIR.

Just a silly thought, but would Road Atlanta be Indycar-friendly? I like that track.

I think the run-off is too sketchy in some places.

Wow, that's a great schedule. 17 races and not a single bad track and great diversity between different track types. 8)
