No Watkins Glen!?

also see posts on iRacing member forums that Portland would be on Labor Day weekend (same slot that WGI was)

there isn't any IndyCar references on Watkins Glen's website currently for 2018 (IMSA and NASCAR weekends listed however)

-

while a return to Portland would be nice, I'd really hate to see WGI not on the schedule.

So it was on their website? Hmmm.

Helio will also run the Indy GP next year. JPM out of a ride for the 500.

With the news of Formula One moving their television coverage to ESPN next year, it has also confirmed that the 500 will stay on ABC next year.

looking more likely that Watkins Glen is gone.

RACER.com article saying that either Portland International Raceway or Nashville (street circuit race?) could replace it if need.

That's a shit sandwich and a half, if the bread was the shit and the filling was....some hope of something maybe nice happening in the future.

Also shit about Watkins Glen, dammit Indycar, we're supposed to be thinking positive about you atm with the new cars on the way. :slaphead:

I would love to see Watkins Glen on the calendar for years to come but we already have that market covered.

Just didn't work for the track on the ticket sales side. Also there's alot of motorsports events in the general region during the summer months. (IndyCar at Pocono in August, NASCAR at both WGI and Pocono in June & August, IMSA at WGI in June, International Classic at Oswego / also on Labor Day Weekend, also other big series races on the short tracks too)

Nobody attended Watkins Glen. Hence it has been dropped (atleast that is how Autosport has worded it)

Didn't look that way on TV, not as good as the NASCAR, but certainly not to 'nobody attended' level.

Aside from that one special finish, I don't recall ever really enjoying a race at Portland. There's only one real proper passing zone (and that chicane is unreasonably tight), otherwise it's just flat, sweeping, mid-speed corners that don't inspire much.
