You can see they're trying to search for a new iconic event.....good luck.

Should try the Road America 500 or the Cleveland 1000 or something if they want to make a race that fans will actually look forward to.

Cleveland is never going to happen with the current mayor and promoters :(

Are those same promoters still there? 8O It's been six years ffs.

Cleveland would be amazing with the DW12.

If I was to travel across the US for any Indy Car race it'd either be for Road America or Cleveland...or Pocono or Michigan but not possible this year for me.

Houston? Baltimore? Fort Lauderdale? Pff, no thanks!

You have to wonder if the Mayor thing is something that was true in the IRL era but is now just something Indycar put out there to save having to bother putting on that race again.

I mean, surely there must be a new mayor by now? :?

Yeah, I know he's mad and I don't care. I do not care. I did not care then. I do not care now. I'm here to race him.

You'd think by now I'd be tired of being wrong all the time....

Oh well, he can't last forever.

Then it'll be a case of finding new promoters as well.

This is why fanboys are pathetic.

I hate those comments about how IMS needs to have just "the one race" and IndyCar having another race there would be nothing short of an act from an antichrist, and how terrible it is that NASCAR, F1 and MotoGP have raced there.

Just a bunch of bullshit. The road course is terrible, that's why I don't want them to race there. Just don't give me any other stupid argument.

It would be like A1GP running a standalone race at Monaco.

Knowing A1GP they would have such a race in Monaco that F1 wouldn't manage to have in next 50 years so of course Bernie would not allow it to happen :p

I agree completely. This applies to all oval-based road courses which I think are uninteresting, flat, and pointless.

I still don't mind them being there though, if it allows a track to get more funding/recognition so as to maintain their "one race" (as long as they don't replace real road tracks).
Also, their existence allows us to see motorcycles racing on a banking, which is nothing short of AWESOME.

Is this the first time she's been in an Indycar since Vegas?

It's been tried before (kind of), and it was a disaster.

Quote:
A little history lesson: back in the ‘60s they staged road races for Indy cars at Indianapolis Raceway Park in July with Foyt, Andretti, Gurney, etc. and only drew a few thousand before the promoters pulled the plug. The message? We've tried this experiment before with MUCH bigger names and no one in the Midwest cared or bothered to show up

Also if you're going to try and start a new end of season tradition, don't go to one of the greatest ovals in the world just to run a below-average street course.

You don't go to Wembley stadium and think "fuck it, lets have a 5 a side match as well this year" do you?

I think having a proper season-ending venue would help a lot. Running Fontana is not a bad idea even though it tends to wear out equipment and champions could be crowned just because of finishing the race rather than racing for it. Homestead suits the demands better but of course it's unlikely to come back.
