the finish was quite interesting, Power thought it was nascar for some time

Would've loved to have heard Power on his headset after that incident. I'm sure he had quite a few choice words hah!

Found that more entertaining than I thought. Would also love to hear Power's reaction.

Another very enjoyable race, but Askew man :slaphead: :slaphead: :slaphead: :slaphead: Just so much derp

Interesting seeing on McLaughlin's stream them talking about Askew prior to the crash, skip to about 2 hours 32min in

This was entertaining!

Maybe because I'm new to pro-level online racing, but it's impressive to see how the pack looks real, the way drivers pick lines and move relative to each other. Commentary and broadcast add the final touch to it. My gf glanced at the TV from afar as I was watching the stream, and asked me in which country they managed to organise a race?

Well... she probably was pretty far away. I like the iRacing stuff but iRacings graphics are not quite 2020 tbh

When I watch iRacing stuff on my computer monitor, it looks a bit washed out and undersaturated, but when I watch it on my TV, it looks damn close to real life. Not that iRacing's graphics are the best ever, but maybe part of it is just that it looks bad when you compare it to some other games that tend to hype the lighting and make things look bolder than they actually would in real life.

The big giveaway is the crash physics. :D But yeah the realism of the driving physics is honestly pretty impressive to me. I don't think it looks *too* real on close inspection but probably if you're at a distance or don't look too close, since the general driving physics look pretty close, it'd be easy to mistake it for a real race.

I noticed the same thing when watching it on my monitor, looks very dull and washed out. But on TV the stream just seems to come alive. The lighting/shadows of the cars looks remarkably realistic. But of course the scenery and backgrounds are pretty flat.

Look at the rear tires in the thumbnail above. The tires should get darker if they're in the shadow of the car... For some reason a shadow on a grey track comes out darker than the same shadow on a black tire, at Dixons left rear for example. Might be nitpicking to some but I could never confuse that to a real picture.

I agree, I was talking about physics and dynamics of a race, not graphics. There are games that have far better graphics, but cars don't move like real ones which is a dead giveaway.

To be fair though, this applies mostly to smooth ovals. On road tracks with tight corners, curbs, bumps, there are more subtle movements of the body of a car that just don't add up yet in sims for online racing.

iRacing has focused on realism when it comes to driving rather that pretty graphics, and that's why a lot of series are running it as their platform of choice, I can't think of any series that is evening touching the likes of Gran Turismo or Forza Motorsports

Honestly, who really gives a shit about graphics after the first few mins? Especially in a sim, you stop noticing the lens flare once you start trying to figure out how to drop that tenth. But all graphics, from worst to best have pretty much hit a ceiling where new tech generations only give marginal gains.

that remembers when someone posted a pic at the Ferrari simulator. the graphics were quite crap, from early 00's but later I saw that many flight sims use the GPU more for the avionics and flight conditions rather than landscape graphics

so it can relate that most advanced sims use the GPU to focus on physics and driving response rather than looking good, plus decreasing the settings gives you a bit more of FPS to run stable and competitive
