If he can't race, does that let Lazier in?

Could end up with Vautier qualifying one car and racing another. Has that happened before?

Jesus, that's the sort of hit where you wonder if it would have been survivable a decade ago. I hope it's nothing worse than a concussion, the way he was moving his head after stopping is concerning.

At Indy its the car & not the driver that qualify's so if Hinch can't race then the team can put someone else in his car & they will start 33rd.

Surely, but Vautier had some business to do in Europe next weekend.

And I am sure that Andretti would prefer someone more capable than Lazier.

EDIT: Sorry, forgot Hinch isn't with Andretti anymore;

I'm sure SAM SCHMIDT wants someone more capable.

Probably but I think you're being a bit unfair to Lazier, it's obvious it's the equipment that was letting him down.

I doubt you would go through turn 4 flat out on your first lap in a car that you'd never driven in that aero config, like he did yesterday.

Lazier gets the 33rd spot if Schmidt withdrew Hinch's car. Since the liklihood of that is about as high as Martian Death Rays raining down on us, should Hinch not be cleared to race than a substitute can be named to the car and they will start shotgun on the field.

Get your chequebook out, Katherine!

Hope Hinch is OK.

If you're David Icke that's always likely to happen any day now...

Seriously though, they just said something on the PA, couldn't hear all of it but it was something about there being an extended delay due to safer barrier repairs.

IndyCar delaying the return of green flag conditions in practice until they find out the cause of the crash.

Post subject:  Re: The 99th Indianapolis 500

The ticker on indycar timing says "Commentary: Practice is on hold until we can determine the cause of the accident."

There might be barrier damage, but c'mon clowns, if you're going to spoon feed bullshit to the fans at least make sure it's the same bullshit.

Oh for fucks sake, something broke on the car, it happens occasionally, what they going to do on Sunday if someone crashes, stop the race for an investigation? Talk about scared of their own shadow atm, it's not like he's the third or fourth one this has happened to today.

Pretty sure the cause of the crash was a right front suspension failure, unless they are talking about the airborne portion of the crash, pretty sure that is a Dallara undertray issue that the DW12/IR15 has always had since they started using the chassis in 2012.

(in my opinion anyway)

Yeaa, they're going a little overboard now. He only half flipped because the right side of the car was gone. It's not like he went in the air.

Yeah this seems pretty paranoid. Unless they have some reason to believe there was an issue with the surface somewhere that related to this.

The goddamn beloved Reynard 20 years ago would've done the same damn thing. Bobby Rahal will tell you that from first hand experience. Take the entire right hand side of a car off and then slide it sideways... I'd be surprised if it didn't go over under those circumstances.

This shit is getting (even more) ridiculous.

Yeah, does seem a bit over-cautious if they know what caused it. The reason for the half-flip is pretty damn obvious.

Car didn't even think of going over until it got to the grass, anyway.
