rip indycar (again) 2012-2012

Seriously though, was the end of this season not an exciting enough culmination to the championship? Why the fuck would he even faintly consider a 'playoff' system, when we had an incredible ending to the season without any contrived bullshit? I really want to believe this is a joke.

This also seems to suggest Miles might become unofficial Indycar CEO, when they inevitably can't find an actual one.

Apparently he is just throwing ideas and see the reactions. I'm pretty sure there won't be a playoff in IndyCar.

By the way, teams are testing at Sebring this week. Conor Daly did yesterday in the #14 Foyt car and impressed a lot of people. So did Tristan Vautier in the Sam Schmidt car. Both a tenth or two of Power's fastest time.

Well it's not like they listened to the reactions when they sacked Bernard...

Lights at IMS?

What would be the point? They're not going to move the start time at Indy and NASCAR has enough night races thank you very much, they don't need to add the Brickyard 400 to that list.

The only people who might benefit from that would be Grand-Am and MotoGP and does the speedway really want to spend all that money just for them?

Sure, run the Indy 500 at night opposite NASCAR's Coca-Cola 600. Run the risk of ABC not committing to a night race against those odds and shuffling it to ESPN or NBCSN. Have the Nielsen ratings take a complete nosedive (as if they weren't stagnant enough as it is).

I dunno Codename, I bet Tony George would cream himself over that prospect!

Hopefully it's not for the 500, it could be so they can run track days etc in the evening or even hold a long endurace race, but it would be a pretty big investment just for that

You know you fucked up when one of your own drivers see it as a bad move.

When was the last time the championship was decided before the last race?

2005? Wheldon sealed the title at The Glen that year. 2006 was sick tight, 2007 was epic, can't remember 2008 but Dixon was very strong that year, 2009 was epic, 2010 was anticlimactic, 2011 was tragic and 2012 was epic.

Lights would be good if there are rain delays on Indy 500 day. That way they can keep going till late at night. Because if the race gets pushed to monday it's often a problem for fans and TV channels.

I'm not really following all the politics in Indycar (following them in F1 is exhausting enough) but aren't all of you over reacting? Indycar isn't going to die, most people don't care who runs the series. I loved the IRL when Tony George ran it, the racing was good and that's all I care about.

Have you ever browsed a forum called Trackforum?

Now that's overreacting.

And sadly it's the only one I can browse at work.

From Robin Miller Mailbag:

Quote:
Q: I've heard a lot of fear on this subject, but never heard anyone connected ever comment on it directly: On a scale of 1 to 10 with 1 being we're safe and 10 being we're screwed (I'm sure you can figure out which end of the scale applies to what with that description), what are the chances of Beaux Barfield being fired and Brian Barnhart being put back in race control?

Ryan Hewitt

RM: Considering the new boss has run off Bernard and Steve Shunck, the only competent and savvy PR man on West 16th Street, I think Barfield is concerned. And Barnhart has evidently been strutting around like he’s coming back, which is a sickening thought.

Oh fuck off...

He comes back and it'll prove that they really are intent on destroying the series.

Indycar 2013... demanding mediocrity when being great just isn't enough...

:8:

Why do we want BB fired and BB brought in! Dammit, BB is the right guy, if they get rid of him and bring back BB, the guy who brought you such great moves as "You know how I fancy ending this race, how about the first ever wet oval finish under green. YEAHHHH that's a GREAT idea, one for the history books!" then the series will be even more of a laughing stock only with the drivers lines more on the line.

Morons. Incomprehensible morons.

I wonder what the series is worth actually...
