I think you mean Portland. I was thinking, wtf, we have another race at IMS this year?

What does that bring the car count to? I believe the last time we had over 30, outside of indy, was at Portland in the late 90's

There were 34 cars at Las Vegas in 2011, and maybe 30 when they did that weird grid draw race at Texas. But I can't remember the last time there were 30+ outside of an oval. I would agree 1990s

32 cars started for Portland 1994. I think that is the most.

Ilott won't be the only FDA driver making a trip to the west coast.

It's hard to find a driver in the paddock to dislike, but this might change.

Lets get him into a team with ferruci and watch the parts fly :8:

Saying that, Indycar is much more about being fan friendly and not putting yourself on a pedastal above those who are paying to watch you race, and I can't see Tictum chilling out and being ok with that.... :whistling:

Ilott will now be doing all of the last 3 races.

Askew was also confirmed for the rest of the season in the #45, so I have no idea which seat Ticktum was after; https://racer.com/2021/09/01/askew-to-c ... -with-rll/

--------------------------

Pruett's journey through Silly Season continues; https://racer.com/2021/09/10/pruett-ind ... d-edition/

tl;dr

-Foyt's situation remains as is - they need a budget before they can confirm Seabass, and Kellett would like to stay, but it is hinted that RoKiT might want to throw their weight around and may even be behind Ticktum's interest in the series.
-Hinch is on the way out at Andretti and possibly out of the series altogether (as a driver, anyway). DeFrancesco is still first in line to replace him. Andretti is serious about the F1 entry and there has been progress since the idea was first floated, but nothing confirmed yet.
-SPAM's third car will be part-time, and could feature a medley of drivers as a result.
-Chilton has been looking elsewhere, but no doors are open, so staying at Carlin seems the most likely outcome. Daly is floated as a candidate for any expansion, and he is quite likely to be looking for a new drive regardless.
-Ganassi still need to agree a new contract with Ericsson although this is seen as a formality. The only wrinkle to straighten out is how to accomodate both JJ and TK if (as is likely) JJ decides to do the 500, and maybe the other ovals after that.
-The #51 is somewhat of a crapshoot after Albon accepted the Williams offer. Any driver with backing (and a modicum of talent) has a chance. The #18 is more straightforward - Vasser and Sullivan want Kyle Kirkwood, but Andretti will not want to lose him and may try to offer him an opportunity in another type of motorsport whilst he waits for Rossi to leave an opening to come up in Indycar.
-Veekay will be back in the #20, whilst the #21 is less certain; Daly seems to be out, but the Air Force might stick around, and there are plenty of US drivers to fulfil their needs. David Malukas may be the best fit, as he would bring his own funding to the team, and this might give the team the freedom to run a third car for the boss.
-Juncos-Hollinger have nothing confirmed beyond the end of the year, although Ilott was given all 3 races as other drivers they were talking to found seats elsewhere for 2022.
-Pagenaud to Shank is waiting for a press release and nothing else.
-RLLR are in the middle of a minor argument over their third driver. Lanigan wants Ferrucci, Rahal wants Askew, and team president Piers Phillips wants Lundgaard. On top of that, RHR's name has also found its way into the mix.
-No replacement for Pagenaud at Penske.
-Top Gun will try to do a few extra races next year.
-Homestead was a possible addition to the calendar before ISC said no.

It'll be sad to see Hinch go, but I think this year was his last good shot to prove himself, and well.... he hasn't really

if Hinch doesn't find another ride, I hope he does get into TV - he was VERY good with the SRX broadcasts this year & back in the Champ Car days on the world feed.

-

not surprised to see NASCAR rip the rug away from IndyCar's chances at Homestead. While I think the IR-18 would race great on that track, I'm not sure if a race there would of been a good decision for IndyCar. Stacked market already with F1 in late May / early June & NASCAR either in March or the fall.

-

random tidbit - I was setting up Charlotte's phone app on one of my devices (got free NASCAR tickets, requires use of phone as entry) & it randomly included IndyCar in the favorite series questionnaire bit. Only other series featured was NASCAR's top 3, NHRA and WoO - all of which run at CMS. I assume this is something that's in all of SMI's apps w/ Texas hosting a race, but still interesting as I'd think they would gear it by track. :whistling:

yeah he should replace Townsend. Keep the two Canadians there. :D

But yeah, I'm a fan of James but he just hasn't done well this year. Not sure why that is but he isn't the only Andretti driver struggling this year (RHR as well).

AA as a team is struggling for years. If not for Herta's pace this would be a complete no-show. Rossi looked like a title contender for a while but the last two seasons he's done very little. Can't blame it on bad luck anymore.

Well, now they have the road course sorted out they might want to diversify the series that race on it a bit? :?
