OK. After watching Newgarden and Mears back to back, the only difference is really how fast Mears' car went over vs Newgarden who went over slower.

Less concerned about it than I was yesterday. Not that any of that concern is of any consequence. As the narrator in the Mears video says, "with the increased speeds came increased risk."

So Eric Lux went full Jalopnik yesterday. You know you're an idiot when Emma Davies Dixon calls you a cock. Dario got in on the action, too.

What did he do?

James Davison posted a video on Instagram of him passing RHR on the outside. He was proud about it or something, and Eric Lux said oval racing isn't racing, and started talking shit about IndyCar.

Which Eric Lux?

Not the one Sutil glassed, the PWC one.

Well considering the series he drives in and the fact 25 drivers were under investigation after their Long Beach race, he can't exactly say much.

I think the only similarity between the two flipperz is that the left front suspension collapsed against the wall and tipped the right rear up. From that point, air was inevitable.

As for Mann's crash, it really does look like the tyres or whatever at the end of the pit wall need a *lot* more give. That impact seemed to add energy to the crash, not absorb it.

And I really don't think "speed or safety" is really what it's about. Speed over safety left a family without Dan Wheldon. Safety without speed wouldn't be racing, but it doesn't take much common sense to see that a balance has to be found.

I believe the stuff at the end of the pit wall is the same sort of energy absorbing foam thats used for the safer barriers.

Also to its credit a few cars have gone into it over the years & while they usually look very dramatic I don't recall any injuries.

This was probably the biggest hit that foam has taken:

Wow, that was a huge hit! Point taken. I wonder if they have to limit the absorption of the barrier in order to avoid it being much longer.

only 10 minutes left in practice, just went back to green flag conditions after a debris yellow.

Fastest driver in today's session will get $10k apparently. Fastest so far is Simon Pagenaud with a 230.698MPH lap
