Newgarden's crash remined me of Ed Carpenter in 2012. However, Newgarden hit the wall at a much higher speed.

Probably should just abandon the race all together. Auto racing isn't suppose to be dangerous.

I wanted to believe Helio was a fluke, but now I am really worried.

I think it all depends if it's from the kits or from the speeds. If it's only the speeds, than I can chill a little because, during the race they should be running a few mph's slower...

well, Newgarden did not go airborne as he spun backwards. As long as that it not the case there is no need to reduce the HP or anything...

Sensible post is sensible. He has cut through the hyperbole and got through to the hidden meaning In every post since helios crash.

Lock thread now please there's Obviously going to be no race so no point discussing further :?

Two completely different wrecks...

I don't see a reason for concern tbh.

I think Helios crash has proved that from the moment of spinning to the moment when they hit the barrier they get not lifted high enough by aerodynamics to make them miss the safer barrier. Which is good.
It seams they have to face straight backwards for some time longer... which usually only happens after the turn. And when they flip on the straight or on the short chute... i have the feeling its a lot less dangerous, because the risk of lying in the fence is much lower on a straight.

So I can see no real catastrophehappening. At least by now.

Yeah. That and it's just not reasonable to anticipate where a car will wind up once it takes off. Yeah, these two stayed out of the catchfence but that's never a guarantee. From an impact perspective, the cars and the track are safer than they've ever been. But cars in the air, near catchfences and crowds, is always going to be very sketchy at best.

I've typed two reply's and deleted them both... I really don't know what to think about this. This is a lot like Rick Mears crash in 92 where the impact just sort of carried the car over.

Difficult decisions on what to do. It's late in the game now to pull the aerokits off. They could cut the boost to slow them down but there's no guarantee that'll help.

I do agree that this crash and Helio's crash are two different animals.

Murky waters we're wading in at the moment. Wonder what the drivers and teams are thinking...

judging by the looks of the nose of the car, if this were '92 his feet and legs would have been destroyed by the impact. so im at least happy about that much haha

Oh absolutely. Like I said, if you hit something now your chances of escaping unhurt are better than ever. But, flying into stuff is always a coin toss at best.

There is a lot of (understandable) talk about the two inverted wrecks, but barely anything on the car that hit the pitlane barrier and ricocheted viciously into the live race track while spreading large amounts of debris. Now if one of the three wrecks (of the past two days) was more likely to cause concern, it is Mann's.

Let us just hope that all the wreckin' is done and out of the way in practice and we have a good, safe, clean and competitive run for pole and 500 next weekend.

The problem is there isn't really a great way to fix that without fundamentally restructuring the track.

Two out of those 3 wrecks have an increased possibility of heading towards the stands, I think that's where most of the concern lies.

The configuration of turn 4 has been an issue forever, and it used to be a thousand times more treacherous (see the MacDonald/Sachs disaster or Swede Savage's crash). Flying cars (due to aero issues) is a relatively recent phenomenon.

tbh, Rick Mears had a very similar crash in 1992

Safe to say, I am worried. I will sit between T1 & 2 on race day, I hope I won't witness any airbornez.
