We’re in that unique situation again where EST is four hours ahead for us presently as their clocks went forward last weekend iirc and ours don’t for another couple weeks, that’s why the race seems uber early for us.

The scheduled start time (11:45AM CDT) still pretty early, especially considering that this has been a Saturday night race for many years. No more NBCSN=no more Saturday night race, I guess. That's going to make things slicker, I bet.

Sky aren't showing the race live. F1 post-race stuff takes priority, obviously  .

I mean the schedules I've seen, with any kind of SC period or anything like that, the F1 race will still be on by the time Indycar takes its green

Also considering Indycar is in Texas, it feels like it must be running about 10am over there or something stupid just to avoid whatever sports is taking place in the American afternoon/evening

So in short this feels like an Indycar thing, you can't expect Sky Sports F1 to cut out their F1 coverage for a more minority interest
As much as I love Indycar and any actual racing over speculation and analysis, Indycar has created this issue

NBC thing - i.e. when the network had a opening where it didn't conflict with golf, Premier League (also the reason why about every MotoGP race is delayed over here) or this new spring football league that NBC & FOX both have

same reason why St. Pete was so early on the year

Nice, I think he needed a good result of some sort, things have been difficult it seems since he left Ganassi

Jeff Gluck has been speculating on Twitter that since the repave has been going well for NASCAR (lol) that Atlanta is just the blueprint for every 1.5 mile oval getting a repave to higher banking to bring them pack racing, with Texas being the next on the list.

So yeah, this could be the last Texas race whatever happens

I guess it could have worked but they needed more than 7 cars and more than 30 minutes

Final practice is on and no-one is trying lane 2, so that question is answered.

Thinking about it, if SMI were to do to Texas what they've done to Atlanta, would it actually make Texas less suitable for Indycar? Because the banking's already at the angle they want (assuming that they bring 1-2 back into line with 3-4), and so all it would entail is a repave.

The speed might be a problem, but Indycar could strip downforce off in order to compensate (see 2012).

I mean I guess anything is possible if they try hard enough; but probably not worth while - especially if the total track width is very narrow (a-la the original Texas configuration where it was designed for the IndyCars to use the flatter portion of the track before the re-config #1 of many after the first races were a mess and a half).

I don't forsee SMI spending money to re-do Texas again after doing exactly that 4 years ago tho imo

especially when Dallas / Fort Worth is exploding to where it might drive the track out of existence anyway

I don't think they'd actually touch the track either, just musing about if they did.
