A translation of those quote marks means "paid for", right?

Honda - "We don't need to supply a top team"

Indycar - "Yes you do"

Andretti - "How much will you pay us?"

Next Indy lights car will be designed by Dallara.

“After a lengthy bidding process and three strong proposals from the finalists, we are delighted to confirm Dallara as our chassis partner for the foreseeable future. The new Dallara IL-15 Indy Lights race car will offer great style, current technologies and of course Dallara’s well-earned reputation for building safe, reliable race cars. We are pleased with the final pricing structure and the various discounts provided by Dallara, and believe our teams and drivers will get excellent value and a terrific race car.”

"Let's have a lengthy bidding process at first, then end up continuing with Dallara."

Was there any other serious offers on the table? Like, ever?

Marshall Pruett: The Lights contract, according to some, is guaranteed to be given to Dallara. Any truth to that claim?
Tony Cotman: I think it's important to say that while Dallara is obviously a well-recognized chassis manufacturing company, there are many others that are also capable of doing the job. Often it comes down to the profile of the series that you're in. If we sat here today and said, ah, it's going to be Dallara, I know everybody thinks that already, if everything is Dallara, why are you wasting your time? If I knew it was going to be Dallara I wouldn't be wasting my time. But I can tell you today that we absolutely do not have a bias toward any manufacturer, and due to the recent acquisition of Lights, on behalf of Andersen Promotions, we need to do our own evaluation. And at the end of the day, if Dallara wins based on all the criteria we're looking at, then so be it, but it's fair to mention Dan does not have a pre-existing relationship with them. That was IndyCar and this is a different company, a different organization that's conducting this search.

I'm wearing my "not surprised" face

It seems Dallara has greased the wheels enough to ensure it gets first dibs on all indycar contracts from now until eternity.

It'll have too much downforce and not enough horsepower. Ho Hum, such is life.

Dallara got the nod simply because they had the lowest bid with the highest interest for the local economy. Having a factory in Indiana sealed the deal.

I don't believe Andretti got paid for the switch. After not getting the title again and the apparent even playing field between engines they got the request from IndyCar and Andretti played ball. If they got cash for the deal nobody is talking about it.

Or they make the best product at the best price point. Let's act like they don't dominate every other form of junior motorsport not owned by Renault.

Wait, I thought we all liked the new car, besides the looks? Hasn't it provided generally good racing? And since when did Dallara build engines? I don't understand.

Do we though? I've always been a supporter of the need for aero-packages but I'm starting to think different. It has been 2 years and right now the racing is great, plus the midfield team are also fighting with the big players.

If aero-packages come in, all I see happening is the performance gap will widen. The quickest teams will simply get quicker.

My thoughts exactly. I like the fact that there's not much teams can do with aero right now. It's why you see more unexpected winners with the car as it's made it more about mechanical grip and the driver.

Don't get me wrong, I'm all for innovation and variety like AOWR's golden days but this is not the time for it for Indycar. They have to keep the racing exciting while trying to make its personalities more popular to the general public like NASCAR does.

Agree with the two posts above, I really couldn't care less about aero packages

This is sort of a dumb question, but when I look through race results on Racing-Reference.info, aside from Indy, it only lists winnings for the top 5 finishers.

What happens to the rest of the field? How much do they get paid, if at all?

It's all Winner's Circle payments, isn't it?

Indycar's Winner's Circle program is like FOM's prize money program
