Ganassi, Penske, Andretti and Kalkhoven all involved.

Just completely gloss over the fact that Zak Brown is also involved. That way outweighs Tony George being involved. And if you guys seriously believe that he's getting the richest owners in the series plus one of the proteges of Bernie Ecclestone together for the purpose of creating IRL 2.0, you are an idiot.

Possibly. This site appears to contain a flat out "Indycar is not for sale" press release as a response.I don't see any stories about this rumor anywhere else in the public news archives, so no need to panic yet. 8O

http://www.sportsbusinessdaily.com/Jour ... dyCar.aspx

Quote:
Former IndyCar Series CEO Tony George has put together an investor group that includes some of the sport’s top team owners — Chip Ganassi, Roger Penske, Michael Andretti and Kevin Kalkhoven — as well as motorsports marketer Zak Brown that recently proposed the board sell them the IndyCar Series. The group has hired the Midwest-based law firm Faegre Baker Daniels and begun a financial due diligence evaluation of the series.

It’s unclear what the George-led group offered the board, but sources said that the group would take over management of IndyCar, which operated at a loss this year, and assume any debt on its books.

Belskus: IndyCar is not for sale
October 01, 2012
In a statement, the Indianapolis Motor Speedway has refuted a story published today by the Sports Business Journal claiming that former IMS and IndyCar chief Tony George and a group of team owners are developing a proposal to purchase IndyCar.

The statement, attributed to Jeff Belskus, president and CEO of Hulman & Company and the Indianapolis Motor Speedway – which serve as the parent companies of IndyCar – reads as follows:

“The IZOD IndyCar Series is not for sale, and representatives from Hulman & Company and the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Corporation have not received or considered any offers to purchase the series. Further, executive management from both Hulman & Company and IMSC maintain continuous and open dialogue with INDYCAR team owners about numerous issues related to the IZOD IndyCar Series, and no INDYCAR team owner formally or informally approached either organization about purchasing the IZOD IndyCar Series.

“Both Hulman & Company and IMSC remain committed to working with the IZOD IndyCar Series and its partners as they prepare for the 2013 season and beyond. The racing in 2012 showcased great competition on track and added to the foundation for growing the series. The just-announced 2013 schedule includes several new twists that could make the racing even more exciting. The combination of the return of nearly all the 2012 venues, including all the ovals, the addition of new tracks and the revival of the Triple Crown award make this one of the most exciting schedules in recent memory."

Something behind the scenes is going on with the ownership of the series. This has been on going story that won't go away. The current report is rather specific, even naming the law firm that's representing the buying party. No matter if the story is false or true. I don't expect the parties involved to come out and admit that they're trying to strike a deal.

As if Toronto isn't enough of a wreckfest at the best of times, lets do it twice in one weekend!

Make sure you go to the Saturday race guys cos there's only going to be about 5 cars left on Sunday ;)

(Interesting point though, I wonder if they'll change anything in regards to the lack of repair time/entertainment value for the fans and allow a driver to race their backup car on the sunday if they tear it up on the Saturday. Obviously with some sort of grid penalty or something, but better a few start at the back than not at all, right? )

I like they're trying to shake things up though, kudos.
I'd have thought they would've tried to do a back to back on an oval to increase the ratio of ovals/street courses but I guess the same issue I just raised about wrecking cars might put paid to that....

Tony George, just fuck right off right now, no-one wants to see you.

If Indycar really want to get back to the golden years they'll ask the Frances for a favour and get him a job at NASCAR.
Then there'd be no obstacle in their road back to the top :p

The way FTG ran the IRL you would think he was already on the France or Bernie payroll.

I read that Belle Isle is having some repaving work done and they are going back to the 2000-2001 layout of the circuit.
