Well they've condensed the entire Indy 500 month of May into 9 days, so a 5 month calendar shouldn't come as too much of a surprise.

Houston in June? Isn't it really hot that time of year?

Yep. I've heard that they are investigating a night race for that date... this makes a great deal of sense, as less fans are going to be willing to brave 95F / very sticky weather.

(Of course they could always build a little oval track *inside* the AC-cooled Reliant Stadium. Heck, you could even MAKE IT DIRT. Hah! That's about as silly as an idea as building a road course around a stadium parking lot. )

Texas Motor Speedway is not that much further away, and the IRL/Indycar races have always been June. Although they've been at night for most of its history, I think the early races were run in 90 degree daytime temps.

The schedule reflects the state of Indycar rather perfectly. :yuk:

I all ready renewed my tickets for Pocono

It's not that bad a schedule, it just lacks a couple of good road courses and a few ovals. What sucks is that Baltimore got shit canned without a proper replacement.

I understand the logic of ending on Labor Day, but the problem is that with such a shot schedule no one is going to remember that the season even happened by Thanksgiving.

Do not forget about the proposal to have an off-season championship outside of the United States, which probably explains the strictly 'summer' calendar for the main series.

Yeah, I know he's mad and I don't care. I do not care. I did not care then. I do not care now. I'm here to race him.

If the proposed international off-season schedule looks anything like this I'll be ok with it.

It will be Latin America and Middle East circuits only, or so the original plan was.

And you would have to be either brave or criminally stupid to want to race at Corby on the 29th November.

Still don't know how this is growing the series. If that schedule stands, IndyCar will be visiting the least number of different venues since the 2006 season.

6 ovals vs 12 road/street races (counting double header rounds) is not balanced.

Althought I can name 4 natural terrain road courses off the top of my head I'd rather see them go to, they really need to get back to some good ovals. They've got the tripple crown back, now throw Michigan in there and go for 3 out of 4 500 milers for the million dollars. Get Milwaukee back to the week after Indy. It's a shame Nazareth is gone because that along with Phoenix would be a perfect compliment to Milwaukee and Iowa. So, throwing that out, Indy, Michigan, Pocono, Fontana, Milwaukee, Phoenix, Iowa and Texas would be nice. 4 big Superspeedways, 1 Intermediate and 3 Short Ovals. Really need another 1 or 2 intermediate tracks in there but there's nothing that comes to mind that would draw a crowd and/or put on a good race.

Of course... To play Devils advocate... Looking back almost 20 years... The 1995 CART schedule only had 6 ovals and 17 races overall... Indy, Phoenix, Milwaukee, Nazareth, Loudon and Michigan... Not all that much different really. 9 road/street courses on this Indycar schedule (ignoring the double headers) vs. the 11 on the old CART schedule.

Unless you look at street and road courses differently, which some people do for some reason; I never did so I agree it's not balanced by any stretch.

Indycar likes street circuits, can't they resurrect Adelaide?

They'd also need to fit ski's to the cars for Rockingham.

Yeah you're not allowed to run any open wheeler more powerful than an FFord at Bathurst.

Even that single car champcar run had to get special dispensation. And even then they nearly killed Will Power.
While still in the pit lane, lol.

Rockingham in November would be fun. Never any grip in the tyres due to them never getting any heat into them.
But hell, fun to watch.
(I doubt there'd be any dangers either, they'd never be able to get enough speed up to have anything but a harmless spin...)

It would be like that Texas race where they had to let the leader play the pacecar role for 20 laps to get heat into the tyres cos the pacecar couldn't drive fast enough.

I can see IndyCars flying off the mountain left right and centre. An accident like Dario's happened last week would turn into a rally accident in a forest very quickly.

Oval race in England in November lmao.

And Adelaide can't be "resurrected" when it's already used.
