Yeaa, it will always hit the 33 mark but after that its unlikely because too much cost just to DNQ.

Ironic view considering Carlin is owned by Daddy Chilton, Trevor Carlin is nothing more than an employee like Horner is to Red Bull or Paddy Lowe to Williams.

When sonny jim get's bored and finds another interest to occupy his time, Carlin will go the same way Arena did like when Tom got bored of them.

Yup, that's my view also. Once Max and / or Daddy realise (again) that 'success' cannot be bought then they'll find something else to do and the entire team suffer as a result, and be placed on the verge of bankruptcy and / or will be disbanded.

Like with Barwell in the BTCC
Like with Arena Honda in the BTCC
Like with Arena Ford in the BTCC
Like with Arena Ford in the WTCC (jeez did these guys not learn anything in their years with the Chiltons)
Like with Manor in F1

Eh, as much as that is true, 2 more cars are 2 more cars. They'll probably do a lot for entertainment levels of the races by crashing and bringing out the Safety car at a point inconvenient for all this fuel saving the teams insist on doing because it's the fastest way to win a race. That alone will be worth it
More cars=more drama and that's a good thing

That car is so goddamn near perfect, looks wise.
If they just removed the aerodynamic faring in front of the rear wheels, it'd be one of the best looking cars ever, or at least in the last 10 years ;)

The point we're making is as soon as the Chilton's get bored (probably end of 2019/2020 once they realise they can't buy success in Indycars either), those two cars will be consigned to the scrap heap, and even if they're not, it's not an addition of two cars, because Ganassi is reducing his car count from 4 to 2 this year, may as well say Carlin is just Ganassi B team, their arrival will make no difference to overall car counts, unlike some of the other teams who are genuinely new (i.e. bringing in new drivers and cars, not taking existing ones from closed down teams).

I get that, but from what I hear there's a limited chassis run on these cars and Carlin's entry was only possible because CG went down 2, there wasn't 2 extra cars sitting around out there ready to be added to the field nor could Carlin afford to commission 2 brand new ones either.

We'll probably always run between 18 (bare minimum field count required in most race contracts) and whatever the maximum has been recently outside of Indy (23/24?)

The days of huge fields are long over, all we can hope is when the Chiltons get bored, those cars find new homes with new teams instead of sitting in a garage

I remember when the merger happened and people thought we were going to get regular fields of 30+

Instead teams like Forsythe just closed up shop.

Yup

If you're spending money on a passion project (one that used to be funded by tobacco advertising,....and then some!) and because of other people's greed, you lose the passion, then it's no wonder you want to take your bat and ball and go do something else instead.

Then the small, original IRL teams died out.

All exactly as forseen in Tony George's "Vision"

"I see a future where Mom and Pop teams honed on the American dirt ovals can go out of business in exactly the same manner as those evil foreigners"

Didn't expect this, Jordan King to race the road/street courses for ECR.

Another positive is that with the series committed to the current car until at least 2021, Dallara have been able to shovel new chassis out of the factory almost as fast as they can build them.

The only real limit is on engine leases.

-------------------

Good on King for taking an opportunity to do something different instead of another year rotting on the F1 ladder.

Yeah, I know he's mad and I don't care. I do not care. I did not care then. I do not care now. I'm here to race him.

Jeez, he’s been around for a long time and his junior record makes Carmen Jorda look reasonably talented
