Gotta fine tune the downforce more for this place. The leader never actually lapped anyone without the backmarker either letting him by or pulling off to pit.

Cars need less downforce, something's wrong when you can't get to/pass a car that's 7 laps down.

some of the moves that RHR made it a little bit decent, but they really need to work on the downforce & power levels for the short ovals.

They also need to look at the cautions because not only do they go on for far too long but there thrown inconsistently.

Bourdais rub against the wall didn't require a caution, Certainly not one that came out almost before he'd even made contact. However RHR's rub against the wall did because it left debris lying on the track yet they waited for 6-7 laps before throwing one by which time there was only 2 laps left.

And the length of the cautions remains an issue, When Filippi spun he didn't hit anything so that should have been a 2-3 minute caution.. It went on for about 10 which was completely unnecessary & this has been an irritating trend on all types of circuits for a while now.

The length of the IndyCar cautions is ridiculous, but also understandable. They send out a sweeper to clean up some of the marbles, which makes the racing better since you don't automatically crash if you run a little high on the restart. But the consistency definitely needs work... :(

That was a pretty dull race. It had enough moments to make it worth watching, but man. This aero package needs to be sorted out. They have way too much downforce and produce way too much dirty air. When you can't lap the slowest car on the track...

The biggest issue was the fact that if you got a run on somebody coming off the turn and tried to dive to the bottom, you couldn't do anything with it to actually complete the pass. The speed difference between the end of the straightaway and the middle of the turn was so low that there wasn't any opportunity for the passing driver to drive it down deeper into the corner to complete the pass. Also, the amount of blocking and chopping (by the entire field, not just one or two drivers) was downright pathetic. I want drivers to be able to defend their position, but you gotta draw a line in the sand somewhere.

Isn't Brian Brainfart still the guy in question since the other guy (can't remember his name) was let go/quit?

Beax Barfield is back in IMSA. Barnhart is back in charge in Indycar. He must know where Tony or the Hulman family buried the bodies.

Oh yeah Beau(x) Barfield was the previous guy. He wasn't perfect of course but he's the best IndyCar has had in a long time, if not the best it's ever had.

Wally Dallenbach was OK back in the day.

As for the aero nonsense. I agree the cars in their current form have too much downforce. I am not a proponent of a car being too fast so I won't go that route. However, remember CART went through this similar problem in the late 90's and it took them a couple years to develop short oval specific wing packages. Running the Speedway wing package was a disaster.

The difference here is, while it's arguable that CART had the luxury of time to figure it out, Indycar does not. New races cannot fall flat on their face on debut.

I don't think this race faceplanted though (NOLA certainly did). We all had concern over downforce levels beforehand, yes, but I don't think the racing was that bad. It was fantastic on restart and it got spicey in traffic. The racing just got screwed over by the timing of the cautions and by Dixon's pace. It's not like this was the first runaway win in Indy short track history.

Did NOLA fail from an attendance standpoint? Because the layout was decent (IMO), they just got horrible weather on race day.

Apparently NOLA was less then 10,000

Unbeknown by pretty much everyone, the final caution was actually caused by Alex Rossi, not by the debris from RHR's skirmish.
