ROGER PENSKE BUYS IMS AND INDYCAR!!!

Allegedly an announcement coming at 11AM EST?

I can't believe it if it's true, but it looks like it might actually be legit.
It's true, all over local media I've been streaming.

Knowing how expansive the Penske Corporation is, I'd expect Penske to already have separation built in (while he's been out of the track & series ownership game since the late 90's, he's promoted Detroit)

Not the first or last time within the series or the 500, given how CART was formed & the fact that Hulman/George had teams in the field (Vision & a lesser extent Ed Carpenter's team) + funding extra entries on the side to keep it at 33 cars during the IRL / post split IndyCar era

If anything I see this done to weather a possible storm, given uncertain times in the economy & to prop up the series as a whole.

he could just play a Bernie, focusing on run the whole series while Cindric keeps running the racing operation

but I dunno, lots of conflict of interest there

Yeah, I know he's mad and I don't care. I do not care. I did not care then. I do not care now. I'm here to race him.

Will this actually have a material impact on the product? It's just one billionaire buying stuff from another, right?

Penske plans on walking the whole facility tomorrow at IMS to see what can be improved on, he also mentioned about checking the feasibility of a 24 Hour endurance race or getting F1 to return. Overall, he wants to make IMS the entertainment capital of Indiana (i.e. adding to what H/G has done in recent years with outside-concert events), alongside being the racing capital of the world.

Roger also offered the Hulman/George family a interest in the business if they so please.

He's leaving a large chunk of the competition decisions to the current management staff, but overall wants it to be a team effort with all parties (team owners, drivers, promoters, H/G & Penske Corp).

Roger also stated he wants to expand the North American foothold, including into Canada again - but wants to keep date equity currently.

---

On the team side, he will step down from being a race strategist (as expected)

We need to start a petition to get him to bulldoze the slow section of the road course that 'replaced' oval T1 on the run down to the start/finish line.

We need to petition him to throw NASCAR out on their ass. The Brickyard attendance is an embarrassment to IMS.

What if he just buys NASCAR instead?

Haha, why not? Why buy only one when you can buy 2 at twice the price?

Anyway, to get slightly less silly, AMuS believes that the Hulk is in line to share Special Ed's car.

Not exactly, this is Roger Penske we're talking about, hardly a man who does things half arsed and also someone who has lived and breathed Indycar racing for 50 years. I can see the future of the sport being very bright now

Tim Cindric is effectively running Team Penske for years now. That includes day-to-day operations & decision making. Some reports indicate he owns 49% of the team as Roger has been selling the stock to him over the years and Cindric becomes the sole owner once Roger retires or passes away. You have to remember Penske is 82 years old and had a kidney transplant.

Roger's children still own the car dealerships and other businesses but none of them will take over running Team Penske once he is gone.
