It boggles my mind how Motegi is still not back on the calendar or even mentioned in any rumors. We have Takuma Sato, an Indy 500 champion and an already passionate Japanese fanbase for racing in general. The oval is undamaged too apparently and it always was I'm sure. I walked on most of the oval and it's in good shape, although it does show its 1997 age.

But no, let's go to Mexico because we had/have Esteban Gutierrez in the series for a few races. While we're at it, let's go race in some Chinese city no one's heard of because a brandless Chinese manufacturer might be interested in IndyCar.

I think the reason why they stopped running there was because Honda (corporate / Japan) decided to stop footing the bill after 2011 with the return of engine competition?

I think IndyCar will go back there someday though, either oval or road course. I think there was some damage that stopped them from running in 2011. But if there using it for track days, demo runs & spectator parking I'd think those issues would be repaired enough to be usable for that?

Would be neat to see the oval get cleaned up and raced on again. Such a fun track on iRacing.

We all know it, but I feel this needs to be addressed here.

http://www.rollingstone.com/country/news/jim-nabors-dead-at-87-w512988

Godspeed, Jim, thanks for all the great memories.

For me, nothing gave me the goose bumps as much as Back Home Again In Indiana and the checkered flag on the race day. After the Finnish national anthem the Indiana's anthem is the only one that I know all the words and the tune by heart. That's thanks to Jim, who made it special, a tradition that will be in racing fans' hearts forever. No words make rights to describe how much Jim Nabors' performance had impact to the greatest spectacle in racing. Thank you Jim Nabors.

Michael Shank Racing (and multiple sponsors) has purchased a new Dallara DW12 chassis and has partnered with SPM to run at least 6 races with Jack Harvey.

Carlin has announced what everyone expected, a 2 car team for 2018 with Chilton and Kimball driving.

Not really a surprise, Chilton helps / funds the Carlin program a ton.

They'll be at the tail of the field for sure. But it'll be interesting at least.

Not a fan of neither Chilton nor Kimball, but if this helps put Carlin on their feet in IndyCar, I'll take it.

Also, by my calculation we now have 22 full time entries. That's good.

Yes, 22 full time entries, with at least 3 part-time entries doing more than just Indy (Shank, Juncos and Lazier).

Ironic view considering Carlin is owned by Daddy Chilton, Trevor Carlin is nothing more than an employee like Horner is to Red Bull or Paddy Lowe to Williams.

When sonny jim get's bored and finds another interest to occupy his time, Carlin will go the same way Arena did like when Tom got bored of them.

Yup, that's my view also. Once Max and / or Daddy realise (again) that 'success' cannot be bought then they'll find something else to do and the entire team suffer as a result, and be placed on the verge of bankruptcy and / or will be disbanded.

Like with Barwell in the BTCC
Like with Arena Honda in the BTCC
Like with Arena Ford in the BTCC
Like with Arena Ford in the WTCC (jeez did these guys not learn anything in their years with the Chiltons)
Like with Manor in F1

There's always 33. Even if it looked short going into May the family would bung a couple of million at someone to put up an extra entry.

All they really need now is a third engine manufacturer.
