Formula E seem to want to create a development series and have unveiled a car, the Formulino (which is actually what Dallara called it):

120kw of power, 560kg of weight.

A championship featuring cars barely faster than Formula Ford 1600 doesn't need a development series.

Interesting to see them using a existing car for it. Also it's a support class for the Electric Touring Car Championship as well apparently?

I agree with you as far as the series stands today, but it will be needed for the future. With more and bigger budget manufacturers coming in, the cars will become quicker, lighter and more expensive. I think it will be a good step for the continuation of the series.

Also the drivers at the moment are from a very high quality, it's good to have more seats available for rookies.

A new track with under 20 corners is a miracle.

Needs one or two more hairpins.

Joking aside, first bit echoes of China while the middle is reminiscent of Valencia.

Alright, got my tickets for the Paris e-prix.

Previous edition was really badly organised for general admission ticket holders (no proper grandstands, no screens...), so they added proper grandstands and did a really cool gesture for those of us who bought tickets last year: early access to half-price tickets on the main start grandstand (number 4). :)

Image

I'd have preferred a seat near turn 1 because that's where speed/braking/chaos is bound to happen, but I gladly take it if it means watching the race for half price in much better conditions than last year.

what a weird calendar, and so much time between the races, how can you get into the series if there are 4-5 weeks between the races?

The same reason A1GP failed, they too originally started out running in the off season, got good nunbers (gate and tv) and then some clueless bean counter said "hey we get really good figures, lets move to the Summer and we can increase those figures",

Without realising the reason they had those large numbers in the off season was becasuse there was no competition, people watched because it was the only thing on, that never occured to them so it came as a complete shock when they moved to the Summer and suddenly had hundreds of other, better, series competiting for their audience. Looks like Formula E is following this fatefull plan.

That's not the full reason A1 failed, but it played a fair factor..

While I agree with your concerns, I think that Formula E has more to it. I know that we held A1 GP dear as hardcore racing fans, but to normal people it easily looked like some Formula 1 rip-off - even considering the nationality gimmick.

Formula E is seen as the future of racing different from F1, it takes place in the middle of cities, has some big former F1 driver names into it and big support from the FIA. It should do better.

The real crimes in that calendar are:
- No Marrakesh? Arguably less spectators than in Europe, but track was really cool and it made for at least a race in each continent...
- Paris back in April with that terrible early spring weather that made the first event so horrible to live through last year
- Paris not being a double-header. I want to see some more racing so block the damn streets for the whole week-end :p

If they wanted an African race, bring back Durban or try Cape Town. South Africa needs international motor racing to return.

I don't know, I like when "Africa" isn't synonym of "South Africa", and I usually prefer when the continent puts ahead its countries that don't have world-high rates of crime/HIV/rape.
