The third season of Formula E will start in Hong Kong on the 9th October - new races will be held in Marrakesh, Brussels, Montreal and New York, the latter two being double-header races at the end of the season. Mexico City, Buenos Aires, Paris and Berlin stay on the calendar, Monaco will return as part of the year-on, year-off rotation with the Historical F1 meeting, and a new location for the London race is being sought with a provisional date of June 24th 2017. Another TBA is penciled in for the 22nd April. Beijing, Putrajaya, Long Beach and Punta del Este have all left the calendar for this year.

Two new teams will join the series - Techeetah has taken over the license previously held by Aguri, and Jaguar arrives to fill the space vacated by Trulli's effort. On the driver front, Techeetah retains Ma Qing Hua from Aguri and adds Jean-Eric Vergne to the line-up, to replace Antonio Felix da Costa who has gone to Andretti to replace Simona de Silvestro. Vergne is in turn replaced by Jose Maria Lopez, Felix Rosenqvist replaces Bruno Senna at Mahindra and Maro Engel slots in alongside Stephane Sarrazin at Venturi as a permanent replacement for Jacques Villeneuve. The last seats to be filled are at Jaguar - it is expected that Adam Carroll will take one of them as he has carried out all of their private testing, but the second seat looks like a choice between three - Alex Lynn, Harry Tincknell and Mitch Evans. All other drivers are where they were for last season.

For the third season, the battery weight has been increased and the regenerated energy limit has been increased from 100kW to 150kW. The maximum power remains at 200kW. The cars will also look different as an upper element has been added to the front wing to give it a box kite appearance.

---------------------------------

Public testing began yesterday at Donington, with Buemi fastest by 7 tenths. This has already been bettered today by Rosenqvist who has set a new Formula E record for the circuit of under 90 seconds.

Yeah, I know he's mad and I don't care. I do not care. I did not care then. I do not care now. I'm here to race him.

Great intro man.

That wing reminds some of the first A1 GP cars, wich I loved. And also those futuristic RedBull and Ferrari sketches. Maybe they're heading into that direction.

Also, first race only in 45 days

Not sure what he's on about with obstacles like a "robot dog", hope this isn't going to become some sort of lame obstacle avoidance series.

Apparantly Channel 5 has taken over the rights from ITV4. Good news I think, channel 5 is in HD on freesat and itv4 wasn't. All races live on channel 5, and all qualifying sessions live on Spike tv

And spike tv has recently launched on virgin too after years of hand wringing so that's a pretty sweet deal

BMW have confirmed a technical tie-up with Andretti, which is effectively a toe in the water prior to a full works entry. This means that only one team (Techeetah) does not have a manufacturer directly involved, and is a pretty good show of confidence in a 2-year-old series that was widely written off as a gimmick.

There are gimmicky things in the series like fan boost, but one can not argue about the quality of the racing.

Ok, so I will be in Marrakesh around the time of the e-prix so I'll try to attend the race as well.

If Paris pulls their fingers out of their ass this year and provides actual grandstands and better viewing spots for spectators, I might go again this year so it would be 3 e-GPs for me in a year :8:

Mercedes have signed for an option to enter in the 2018/19 season. I strongly suspect they will be leaving F1 around the same time.

Given the influx of manufacturers and industry uptake on electric powertrains, I would also expect reasonable odds on FE becoming a genuine top-flight series in 10 years' time.

I don't think the required budget for FE is even in the same ballpark than F1, so it is not an "F1 or FE" situation.

http://www.fiaformulae.com is the most useless website I've seen in a while. Spent several minutes trying to find a schedule for next Sunday's race. Finally found it... at the bottom of the page as screenshot-JPGs taken from a PDF schedule apparently.

Easier to use this community calendar from Reddit:

https://calendar.google.com/calendar/em ... a/New_York <-- change to your Continent/City

.

In all likelihood you are probably right. I'm just factoring in the fact that Mercedes are contractually committed to F1 until 2020, and are generally *very* non-commital about staying any longer.

A leap into FE and WEC, perhaps?
