Just hot-swap the batteries. Bam.

Although, without looking at the design, they probably figured that it's hard to do that.

It's a stupid idea, but the pit stop idea is the stupidest

The Race
Early morning: free practice session, followed by qualifying
Late morning: qualifying 1 lap time each driver with both cars A and B
Afternoon: a 2-hour break to recharge the cars
Evening: Final race with 3 stints and 2 pit stops
Pit stop will involve a change of car: when the battery runs out, the driver will make a pit stop, then will run 100 metres to climb into a recharged car

Races are planned to be 45 minutes in length.

Ten host cities are planning races for the 2014 season, and Formula E originally intended to run races exclusively on street circuits. However, not all races are now set for street circuits. As of September 2013, a calendar with 10 host cities for the 2014 season has been announced, which consists of Beijing, Putrajaya, Hong Kong, Punta del Este, Buenos Aires, Los Angeles, Miami, Monte Carlo, Berlin and London.

May as well have them run on slippery pontoons and swing sets and call it Wipeout.

I wouldn't surprise me to see a rule implemented that says the grid positions will be determined by a swimwear contest involving the driver's wives, girlfriends or boyfriends.

2 pitstops in a 45 minute race? So the teams need 3 cars for each driver?

I was half looking forward to this. But these rules have killed off any excitement I once had.

It's a showcase for electric cars, how they too can be performance vehicles. If it wasn't for the retarded race format, I would find this very fascinating. The racing world needs these kind of initiatives.

It does seem a little short-sighted of them to add so many pointless gimmicks to the format, when SINGLE SEATERS RACING AROUND CITY STREETS seems to be a pretty massive gimmick to begin with. I mean come on, they're basically recreating Project Gotham Racing.

Unfortunately, the execs of this are trying to target very young people, and you see, they have heard that they like this Twitter thing. Massive rule fail results. {facepalm}

I honestly think a lot of the target demographic for this would be a bit older, the type of person that is fascinated by the technology of it all.
