It would be pretty cool if they were to race in the streets of Tokyo. I'm surprised Japan isn't a host yet. Hopefully Aguri can help with this...

Perhaps this article will help explain my "ramble". (Also this one, this one, etc.)

The fanboost gimmick is retarded, but the whole reason it exists is because one of the demographics Formula E wants to target is 10-14 year olds. A stated aim is to get kids to thinking that the first car they buy is an electric one.

Now, a push to bring in younger people *does* makes sense, because the demographics of traditional auto racing (Formula 1, NASCAR, Indycar, etc.) is aging. Not horribly so, but long term, the trend is not the best scenario for the sport's future. The forms of motorsport that actually has a youthful demographic are way different from traditional motorsport these days ("action sports" such as motocross and BMX, drifting, etc.)

So, yes, the notion that racing needs to attract more young people is correct. But my initial impression is that Formula E executives have absolutely no idea what to do to get there. I get the impression that they have a vague notion that younger people use Twitter and like "social media" type stuff, so they came up with this retarded gimmicks of a "fanboost" as a retarded way to attract the 10-14 year olds. My guess is that even 10-14 year olds would see through the gimmick and think "fanboost" is retarded, to be honest.

The good electric cars are at the moment ridiculously expensive. Take the Tesla series -- they make sense. They are not just "green", but can out-accelerate many high performance petrol cars. They have good performance specs and solid design elsewhere. Many of the "reasonably priced" full-electric cars are frankly not worth it at this time.

The type of person that buys a Tesla is an upper-middle class 40-something who has an ear out for greenery and new technology. I would see *this* demographic as the current target for Formula E.

The kids are too wrapped up in this shit economy to even think about electric cars (or even petrol ones in so many cases)... this isn't the 1950s and 1960s where hot rods and cars were teenage status symbols, this is the New Great Recession where youth unemployment in many countries are at record high levels. Maybe some young people will like Formula E because of the tech too, but the stated aim of making young people think of electric cars as their first car makes no sense to me at this time given the current economic situation, and the current high cost of any electric car worth a damn.

tldr; see prev. post.

Sounds like an RC car. The car looks very cool, but the sound is terrible.

Yeah, I know he's mad and I don't care. I do not care. I did not care then. I do not care now. I'm here to race him.

So Audi is looking for new engine innovation after their diesel and hybrid success at Le Mans?

another team has entered.

I am very enthusiastic about this series and can't help a bit of A1GP nostalgia coming up.

True, I like that it is a winter series with some unique locations. Not very keen on the all electric concept (aka missing sound). But hell, racing is racing.

I'm very keen on the all electric concept. IF motorsport have to justify it's existence to the outside world by being green in the future, these kind of initiatives can be golden. Hopefully though, that's just a big "if".

I love how all those companies say it is an excellent global showcase for their electric vehicle technology, while the cars are single make technology.
