It comes down to whatever clause in drivers' contracts about behavior at events representing the team, sponsor or sport. In those situations the driver is expected to be professional and not embarrass their associates, and it shouldn't be surprising that failing to do that has repercussions. Maybe Daniel wouldn't have been shown the door so quickly had he been better than mediocre in 5 years of Formula E. I'd expect driver contracts going forward will have more specific wording around esports events though.

Well, it's double standards because the decisions were up to each team, so each one might have their standards and having a brand like Audi behind your back might put some more pressure for you to behave well. I do think it was harsh to sack Abt, but I don't think it was out of proportion necessarily.

And also, we don't really know whether this was the only factor in the decision or there was something else. Poor performance or other problematic behaviors off track.

I can think of some firings in F1 that off-track factors were more decisive than anything else, like Pizzonia flipping a Jaguar with a journalist inside. So, misbehaving in simracing is not that different than having a poor behavior off-track. In the end it's simple - don't mess it up if you are representing other brands besides yourself.

He's going to get the same punishment as that NASCAR dude who said the n word.

I think it's funny, it's brought more attention to the sport and series. His sponsors got more exposure because he didn't finish last, it brought more good than bad. He should have apologized earlier, but still, I think it's harmless.

No.

Yeah, I know he's mad and I don't care. I do not care. I did not care then. I do not care now. I'm here to race him.

I don't know man, minimizing this because it's "just a game", is like minimizing theft because you just stole a candy bar instead of a TV at the shop you work at. Yes, in front of a court of law, you might get a different judgment, but your private employer is going to fire your ass on the spot regardless.

People watch to see his ass in the seat, not another unknown driver. They could hire professional writers to make autograph sessions at the track, why not? That's how ridiculous it is.

In other news, I just got an e-mail that the Paris e-prix is not going to happen this year and my tickets are refunded (back in March I had selected to keep the tickets and attend later). Can't find more news on whether the whole season is cancelled or just this race.

Robin Miller's going to minimize this as "just a game" because Robin Miller unfortunately has been dismissive of the whole e-sports thing to the point of annoyance. IMHO Robin Miller has a "good side" and a "bad side", and his "bad side" tends to be a stuck-in-the-past mentality that seems to wish that Indycar was still in the front-engine roadster dirt track era. Not too bad in small doses, but during the lockdown and subsequent e-sports diversion, it's been insufferable.

From my perspective, I don't get the fuss for this virtual Formula E switcheroo personally. But I don't pay Daniel Abt's salary and don't know what the expectations were. It probably does have something to do with being The Marketing Face and there's certain expectations there. Although in entertainment in general ghost writers and performance aids and the like certainly exist, there is great lengths taken to conceal them, and when a technical flub does happen, it can range from embarrassing as hell (like Ashlee Simpson on Saturday Night Live having a lip sync fail) to (in the case of Milli Vanilli) a complete career implosion.

You mean people still listen to that fucking dipshit Robin Miller? He's the kind of person who will instead of talking about a racing story, will talk about how he knew it and no one else did, and how he's going to anger people by revealing the information. Like he's some kind of fucking journalistic rebel and people should be envious of him. It's fucking pathetic.

The season will end in August with 6 races at Tempelhof Airport.

Ugh. Now would have been a good opportunity to visit a permanent circuit.

Maybe it's me but I never found the tempelhoff races exciting, so 6 of those is way too much. Just restart the season in October. Don't understand the rush to finish this season with 6 races in 1 week

"Each pair of races will use a different track configuration, presenting opportunities for distinct strategies and the conditions for Formula E’s unpredictable and exciting racing."

We can hope :-/

I don't know why this keeps coming up over and over, its a basic misunderstanding of what formula E is

The USP is demonstrating the future of electric engines in the middle of cities in front of an audience that traditionally does not go to permanent race tracks

Plus the cars are more about torque than they are about top end, they're designed exactly for the type of circuits they race on, a longer road course would do them no favours and not put on great racing anyway

Can we drop this now please? It's never going to happen

Go find footage of the Donington test races, that's about as close as you'll ever get to it.

They can't use those regular city circuits (Tempelhof not counting as a regular one) and they can't have audience now, hence the good opportunity to do something they normally wouldn't consider.

Rast has been given Abt's old seat at Audi and Abt has gone on to replace Ma at NIO333.

let's see if they lose the fear of being compared to another racing series and try a shot on racing on proper racing tracks now
