I think the halo works quite well in amongst the other upright swoops. It's a stunning car:

Better than F1.

Eh. Should've stuck a canopy on it.

The old renders/concepts released by Spark (from 2016 or 2017) had a windshield. That was before Halo became a thing in F1.

Looks like the hot wheels cars I used to play with as a kid.

It's ridiculously over-the-top, in a good way

I don't like that they're going for a covered wheel design. They should keep the open-wheel formula, and maybe develop a prototype championship on the side which would have this "Le Mans" look because it does look badass!

(okay, I admit it's also because I enjoy seeing cars climb over each other when colliding)

If they hit hard enough it can still happen. As with side to side contact as well.

Of course it happens every decade, but it's not exactly the same. Open-wheel is special, only there you get this kind of thing:

Which is precisely exciting because the consequence of getting wrong, be it by an inch, is this thing:

Autosport have done a study on this and they think FE have pulled a genius move by making a car that is so obviously not F1 or WEC. It's its own thing, and there's no mistaking it for another category. The enclosed wheels and general shape are much less drag-causing than a normal open wheel car, which is a good link to how slippery electric road cars are.

Lucas di Grassi reckons this car will be good for 300KM/h, which is a good leap. They've also put a real focus on under-body downforce, like we've been hoping F1 would do for years.

I boldly predict that when f1 is done with halo and the next level of cockpit protection that the halo is only a temporary step towards, (so they say, but then drs was a temporary solution too), f1's next safety crusade will be covered wheels too

Yet when then do formula e (and to a lesser extent indycar) have already stolen a march on them.

The days of light wheel to wheel nose up crashes are coming to an end ( though as previously stated, Scott Dixon Indy500 style torpedo launches can't be prevented so it's really just all for show as those are the types of crashes that cause the hurt, not nosing into the air at 50mph)
I guess the racing fans of the future will look back and wince at open cockpits and wheels the way I sit watching the good wood revival and am a scared of those 40/50s cars with no roll hoops or seat belts

Such is life....

A simple track makes for better racing. This should be a good one.

nice layout

too bad FOX will most likely show it on a 72 hour tape delay, both on TV and on streaming formats -_-

For next season races will be slightly shorter in order to allow the cars to run the whole race non-stop. There also doing away with the point for fastest lap & will instead away a point to the most efficient driver.

Additionally......

In another change drivers will also be required to use two different power modes during each race. The higher-power mode will “result in a performance gain of approximately one second per lap while activated.”

I really don’t get the point of the last one.

In a series about energy efficiency & where it’s all about making a relatively limited amount of battery power last a race, Why would you force them all to have to use a mode that will use more energy?

It's also about entertainment, and purism is boring.

Stupid changes. But is that engine mode thing really any less "fake" than e.g. mandatory tyre compounds?

The race format for season five, which we haven't disclosed yet, is going to be something closer to a video game and will blow the mind of the younger generation. It's almost a race format designed for them.

It's going to be blue shells isn't it :8:

Formula E is where they can try new stuff away from traditional series, if they want fire EMP pulse instead of time penalties, so be it
