For the first time since 2012 does the Scandinavian Touring Car Championship host a race outside Sweden! Ironically though, not another race in Scandinavia, technically. The 2nd round of the 2017 will be held at Alastaro in Finland. Not Finland most exciting venue, I was hoping for Ahvenisto, but still good news. STCC-kalendern 2017 i sin helhet. Tobias Johansson's Brovallen Design is "70% likely" on the grid next year. It won't be a Ford team, but he has good contacts with Sweden's Audi, VW, Seat and Kia importers. At least, 2 cars if any. http://www.stcc.se/2016/11/18/brovallen ... -clio-cup/ |

Robert Dahlgren "retires" from his "professional racing career", but may still race in 2017. He will work for a major Volkswagen, Audi, SEAT, Skoda dealership, so don't be surprised to see him in one of PWR's Seat Leon's in 2017. Johan Kristoffersson full-time gig will be in world rallycross, but still wants to do some STCC this year. See these guys splitting a Seat, perhaps? Funny if it would be that way, two of Sweden's best drivers not going for the championship. Volvo's manipulation of the STCC regulations these last few years does not seem to end on a fond note. Dahlgren's "retirement" was just a political way of saying "don't like Volvo's racing attitude", throwing their toys out of the pram when STCC announced the transition to TCR and so on; he will race for the PWR Seat team. Kristoffersson Motorsport returns to STCC! http://www.touringcartimes.com/2017/03/ ... olkswagen/ That means 12 cars confirmed, so the target of more cars than in recent years have been met! Awesome. It's still a bit weak on the driver's front though. Johan Kristoffersson will only race at 4 of the 7 weekends, due to World Rallycross commitments. Mikaela Åhlin-Kottulinsky will also miss a couple of race meetings. At the moment, it seems very much like smooth sailing for Robert Dalhgren, as the rest of the field are unknown quantities. Hopefully, some of the old guard can return. Would be very nice if Richard Göransson, Linus Ohlsson, Mattias Andersson, Björn Wirdheim, Emma Kimiläinen and Fredrik Larsson could find programmes, so that 2017 can be STCC return to force driver wise too. |
