This is what Daily Sportscar said in their article:

Quote:
UPDATE – multiple paddock sources have confirmed to DSC that the move was prompted in no small part by significant increases in entry and other fees suggested by TOCA for 2023 including a very significant hike in the fees for ITV coverage going forward.

Lets hope it doesn't chase anyone else away and those increased fees go towards a live stream for all of Saturday's action, Mr Gow

Would be interested to know if the increase in fees is because of more ITV1 coverage as opposed to ITV4. Seems very short sighted of TOCA to push for ITV1 coverage if so.

I was going to say the the decision probably has something to do with entry fees. Back in the 1990’s I remember when I looked into Junior and FVL they were astronomical (FVL was £30k iirc) and most of that went to TOCA for the TV package. Vauxhall also paid a hefty sum to have the two series on the schedule as well. You also couldn’t pay-per-race, it was all or nothing, that’s on top of the £600 entry per race too.

Could be different now, been out the sport a long time, but back then it was cheaper to enter British F3 Class B and do the British GP support race than it was Formula Vauxhall Lotus supporting the Touring Cars.

Read somewhere that Gow has said only ONE of the support slots will be filled for 2023 (boooo!) and next season will be a few rotating guest series until a permenant one is found in 2024

My money is on that Honda Civic cup that runs with TCRUK tbh, they have enough money to set up cameras and stream their qualy and races even when they're not on the TCR bill so they're about the only one that's professional enough to find a place on the BTCC bill imo

They are also shit, racing wise. Sportscars do not put on as good racing on the shorter, tight british tracks as proper touring car support series would.
Give me the Honda Civic Cup, Clio Championship or whatever else that's left. Even the Ford championships that were supporting the Festival at brands last weekend would be more apt (though with the news today Ford is discontinuing the Fiesta, I guess there's no money in it for TOCA)

Does Gow have designs of turning the BTCC into a sportscar championship or something? He keeps signing support series more befitting a GT championship than a touring car one?

I hope in his old age he's not thinking of going down the DTM route for BTCC....

That's a bit of a jump to conclusions! These are very last-minute gap fillers.

They must've known about Ginetta leaving for a while before we did though, and also must have their eye on championships that would make good replacements should one of their supports (or more) want to leave at the end of any given season

More Porshes and a championship that runs about 8 cars with seconds gap between them smacks they either went into major panic stations or they didn't even really try, just waited for the first thing to hit their inbox after the ginetta news went public

Now we're talking!

So long as they don't force ITV to turn the cameras off so every other series that day is broadcast but them, as they've been short sightedly doing this season :whistling:

Laser Tools Racing withdraws - anyone else starting to feel like the grid might be a bit thin next year?

https://www.lasertoolsracing.co.uk/blog ... -from-btcc

Has anyone else being listening to the Stories From Supertouring podcasts? Pretty interesting to hear from some of the drivers who were there, bit sad to hear that James Thompson is basically an alcoholic now in the Donington 1999 episode

From what I understand it's only Laser Tools who have withdrawn, not Aiden Moffat Racing.
