Following up the 12 Hour last weekend, the 2024 Supercars season gets underway this weekend with two 250km races at Bathurst replacing the canned Newcastle event. There's quite a few changes with SVG going to NASCAR and Brodie Kostecki's breakup with Erebus, and a number of other driver changes throughout the field. The series also heads to Taupo in New Zealand for the first time ever. There's also been a number of changes to the cars in the offseason to try and correct the disparity between the Camaro and Mustang of last season.

Schedule for this weekend:

I quite liked Newcastle, but as a replacement, they didn't pick too bad a track ;)

I'm not expecting much because the shorter rounds at Bathurst have always been underwhelming. It's better then another Eastern Creek round though.

Erebus has revealed their livery and the main sponsor is a fencing hire company that supports Todd Hazelwood in TA2

Are they not showing the supports this year?

According to raceday.watch the Aussie Racing cars should've been on an hour ago, but the coverage is seemingly going from the qualifying session, a load of waffle and interviews and counting down to the top ten shootout.... :8:

They canned the race because of delays.

There was literally 2 hours between qualifying and the shootout........what delays? WTF?

I'm going to bed, fuck this padding

Supercars needed 2 hours to hype up their precious Top 10 Shootout

Meanwhile, parity is as bad as ever. The Fords just have no breath on the straights.

The Camaros are so much faster that they can go out and dawdle around scrubbing tyres as they please, meanwhile the Fords are fighting every metre of the track. They also can run max wing because of the top speed difference, further saving tyres.

At this stage it's looking like it might be yet another T888 year. They are 1-2 for the race today. Mostert is first Ford in 3rd.

Track blockage in Super2. They literally aren't going to get a full green flag lap in a 35 minute race. That was stupid too, someone tried to pass at the Cutting.

Waters lost a wheel. FCY instead of a full safety car so the field doesn't get bunched up with a few laps to go.

They didn't really need a full SC for that, it's now off to the side of the track.

That's what the VSC was designed for.

Love crashed at the Cutting for the 2nd time and that will end the race with Feeney winning from Brown and Mostert unless they can somehow get a 1 lap sprint.

I couldn't think of a way for supercars to make their races MORE boring, but it looks like they've been searching for ways to do that :slaphead:

The extended highlights on youtube went from the t1 incident to the pit stops to the wheel coming loose to the crash at the end of the race with zero overtaking or anything else in between

At some point they'll have to do something to make their races worth watching, but this ain't it
