I was watching the live coverage of the first races of 2000 last night, and even then, Matt Neal drives him and Kristensen out of the race with a stupid lunge into Stirling's, and John Watson still says "poor old Matt Neal the underdog, they all pick on him. It may be just have been a car problem". For some reason, the guy has always been defended. He's not the worst out there but he's not far off

Race against time to get Belcher and Ollie Jacksons cars ready for Oulton. Belchers car is worse off then it looked in that pic.

This is Simon Belcher's comment on his FB page:

Quote:
Thanks for all the messages, I'm ok a bit stiff but ok. Having suspension failure at Church corner and hitting the barrier at 120mph is not fun. The car is very badly damaged but will assess it next week, but this may kill our budget for 2014 :(

Im no Neal fan but Collard drove clean into the side of him.

Yep, that was intentional on Collard's part. That incident and the one at the chicane where Shedden punted him off got a lot of cheers from the crowd.

I don't think I've seen so many huge crashes at one event before, but that's Thruxton for you I suppose. The second Clio race was hilarious  .

Neal is a douche. He's made a few nice "bump and run" moves in the past, and think's he's amazing at it, often takes himself and others out. Collard was well within his rights to take him off imo.

Actually more often then not, his bump and runs are successful. Much like Earnhardt in NASCAR.

And unlike a certain Plato, I have actually heard Neal apologise after one went wrong.

What?

Aside from oval banger racing, at what point is any competitor in any series 'Well within their rights' to drive another competitor off the track.

By that logic, this was completely justified?

That wasn't intentional, that was just idiotic and an incredibly poor misjudgement / understanding of spacial awareness.

Here's what I said further up this page...

kals wrote:
What annoys me is that Neal and Shedden took a good few chunks out of Collard during race 3. Admittedly Shedden's wasn't intentional but Neal's two hits were more his standard bump and pass than him trying to do anything clean. Then what to BTCC do? They warn Collard for reacting to some pathetic standard Neal driving. I'm not justifying Collard's behaviour rather just saying it is a somewhat understandable reaction.

It's akin to being at school and the teachers let the known bully go unpunished but instead the victim gets sent to the head masters off for getting fed up and snapping.

Apologising doesn't make it right nor should it make it more acceptable. An intentional bump is an intentional bump.

That's akin to your big brother or sister giving a phoney apology and your parents buying into that crap, versus you who's being honest and saying "yes I did what I did and I'm not going to give you a bullshit apology because I got fed up with putting up with his / her crap"...

As long as they don't build a Mallory Park - Gerrards style chicane. All they need to do is build a proper retaining wall. A bundle of tyres is an unacceptable solution.

Yeah, any changes would have to go through them. They do write the regulations regarding circuits, afterall.

I haven't seen any footage of Jackson's crash. Could anyone guide me to a video link or something please?

Jackson's crash was never shown. Just the aftermath.

It was missed by the cameras Bigears, and I doubt any fancams caught it that far away from the chicane either (the one place where the fans are allowed to be)

Speaking of fancams though; this crash completely flew (lol) under the radar this weekend:

Chris Mealin smashes himself out of the Saturday FFord race.... :8:

Simon Belcher's taken a leaf out of Rob Austins' book and launched "I helped get Simon out of the woods.........and back on the grid" T-shirts.

If the land owner won't let them install barriers, then they need to make better use of the natural resources, that 2 foot high tyre wall have been a pathetic excuse for a safety feature for 20+ years.

What they need to do is go back to the old way of doing it, instead of stacking 3 or 4 tyres on top of each other, they need to interlink them the way used to, then run a convenor belt strap along both the back and front of them, if needed, "cut" them into sections so that if someone does destroy them, you simply drive out a flatbed with a pre-made bundle on the back and drag it into place.

As kals says, no chicane please, and I bet if you ask the drivers, they'll all say the same thing.

Have two rows of the things 6 foot apart, they need to be at least 5 foot high, to stop a car going over the wall (like what Belcher did).

I'd even go as far as saying that putting one of those modern style armco barriers in with the steel legs attached to the back of them (instead of railway sleepers like they used to use), would possibly not even be an improvement, and considering how fast Belcher was going, one of these new walls would simply have folded over and launched him into the trees anyway. It's downhill from the track to the woods, so whatever they do, they're going to have a hard time dealing with it.

Judging by the picture of the broken tree a couple of pages ago, I'm guessing Jackson's crash was similar to Belcher's, just without the roll.
